Future Escape owner

Hello all I am anxious to learn more and figure out what to order and why. I’ve researched about as much as I can online prior to stumbling across this forum and look forward to doing more research here. Main questions are like most. Will my current vehicle tow the trailer I’ve decided on well just about anywhere, comparisons on different size trailers, which one would work beat for my intended purposes.

If you ask about a tow vehicle, I'm going to tell you get a Cummins. If you head west on I70 from Denver, you can see the top of the cars as they climb the mountain pass in front of you.

One thought on tow vehicles. I always suggest no more than 50% of what the manual states. My Tundra 4.6L tows 6500lbs, my trailer is 3150lbs on paper. Even at that, I want more capacity. For every 1000' of elevation, you lose 3% horsepower. I had to put my 4Runner in 3rd gear to get up to Eisenhower Tunnel at 11,000' on I70. I held 2nd gear coming over Loveland Pass at 12,000'. It depends where you plan on going. My kids are just starting College so I see some long trips west in my future.

Great info thank you! I currently have a 2018 4Runner Trd Pro and already figured I would want more power for a 19 or 21. Heading west would be at least 2 times per year and up I-70 would be part of the drive so that was perfect advice for my situation. Thank you!

I like to vary my scenery, we have taken I94/I90/I80/I70/I40 to cross the USA and each one is just as enjoyable as the other. Weather conditions and time of year determines our route west...

Hi" JamesP... Power is great to have when pulling... but it costs when you aren't!!! On a daily basis you may not need some extra horses and only a few times when pulling. That's why you can use the tranny... just don't over do it!!! Alf

Wifey whines once in a while when I hit 4000 rpm in my Tacoma (4L V6 towing a 21) so I tell her to buy me a new truck. I'm an ex-sports car racer (SCCA closed track) so I actually USE my gears when I want to.


When I offer to let her drive instead of me, she declines.............

Yeah, but if you tried a 3.5 EcoBoost and could afford it you would jump in NY minute! Just got back from a 4K mile trip with lots of grades and I cannot imagine doing it in a mid-size. Too noisy and nerve wracking.

You guys are comparing apples to oranges , The Ford F150 with the 3.5 liter Eco- boost engine is designed for towing , hauling , working .

True, but our little, slightly older Tacoma's with 4.0L engines are designed for playing. The only time they have to work hard (very hard in Colorado) is the 10% of the time they are towing an Escape. But you are essentially correct: While climbing from the Mile High City to the Pass I have a bad case of turbo envy. And when the rpms hit 4500 in second gear I begin to wonder if anything is going to fall apart. Still, its downhill from there...

Every time I offer to let Noelia to drive the Mustang GT with 6 speeds, she declines.... must be a common male/female preference.
