Greetings Members, we just joined the forum and want to say hello!

Based on some limited browsing so far, you seem to be quite a bright, creative, witty and helpful lot. And at least one of you has very good taste in alcoholic beverages...

So we're in the cue for a 17B, and will likely seek your advice on a number of questions over the coming months, but thought we'd start with just one for now:

We're interested in the permanent bed option and are hoping you can help enlighten us on the pros and cons.

Welcome to the fold, and congrats on your purchase.

If it was me, I would go for the permanent bed. No way we would want to set up, and tear down, every day.

Oh, and a big handful of others, given their listed preferences. I found it easy to find someone to share a dram of one of the bottles of Scotch I brought to the rally.

Welcome and congrats on your purchase. If you can live with a two person dinette, then a permanent bed might be a good option. The only "con" I can think of is losing a larger dinette. We love the permanent bed in our 19.

i have a 17b and keep the bed made all the time so i prob would have liked the full time bed option. i don't mind using the smaller two person dinette I normally eat outside anyway or in bed watching the TV when its raining. Which alcohol pref did you like? we have such a variety of alcohol tastes.

I also have 17B and the rear dinette is almost always a bed, but wife chose to use it as a dinette on one vacation because she liked the extra space to lounge during the day ( wasn't that warm out ).
We have a foam topper, so that has to be rolled up and stored. We ended up piling stuff on the front dinette set up as a bed.
If you got the permanent bed it would be more difficult to access stowage in the benches, and the water heater etc.
I think all in all, I'm happier with the rear dinette/bed.

We liked it both as a bed & dinette. The "bistro table" up front is great but limited in space. You can always change it into a permanent bed and have a better mattress than stock, so maybe you should wait?

We almost got the permanent bed in our 17B but are so glad we didn't. The view while sitting at the rear table is always better than the view sitting at the front table. The table in the rear is bigger and more stable than the front table. We never put the front table up and removed the pedestal holder from the floor. We have a Costco topper which we store in the front and slide a couple of plastic storage boxes under the front dinette table.

Me too. Plus I had Reace put a door in the wall of the passenger side bench to access the stuff, if needed, (that also is reached by the outside hatch), as I do keep that large dinette as a bed.
