Hello to All

Hello, brand new members and introducing ourselves. We're Robert and Yolanda from San Antonio Texas, and we just put a deposit down on a 2015 Escape 17B. I've been searching all sorts of threads on the forum, and I want to say thank you for all the great information and tips!

We have not yet completed our build sheet, so most of my newbie questions will be along the lines of what we should get/what we can live without. I've already read alot of good material on this subject, but like all newbies, I have a ton of questions.

I'll post in the appropriate area, and thanks in advance to all you experienced owners who can help us during this exciting time.

I would encourage everybody to put their location in the profile section, as you have done.
It helps a lot when answering questions ( such as do I need AC ?).

Oh, no...not another Texan! Maybe you can get ETI to open a branch production facility down there as your numbers seem to be increasing exponentially.

Welcome!

True Karen!
Maybe if the Casita wasn't so butt ugly on the inside we'd have went that way. It's only 3.5 hours to their factory from here.

Just couldn't see myself surrounded by shiny white fiberglass, fake wood and carpeted walls....lol

My wife and I live in North Carolina, but have family in Dallas. We went for a tour of the Casita factory also. When we asked about a factory install of led lights, we were told that we could install after the build. Seemed like a waste to us. We picked up our 19 on May 2 and are working our way back east. Just spent 2 nights in Eisenhower Park in TX. We loved having the AC, digital thermostat and extra insullation.

I've owned 3 Casitas, one brand new.

I hate that rat fur on the walls, is all I will say.

Casitas don't have rat fur.. they have carpet. Scamp has the rat fur, which is a marine headliner material and is really quite nice IMHO.

Well, I have to concede that maybe technically that's not what it's called, but it sure seems like it should be.

hahahahaha, agree. But truly the marine headliner material is like what you have on the ceiling of your motor vehicle. Short pile fabric, not looped carpet.

Hi Robert,
Another San Antonio owner here but we have a 19. We would be more than willing to have you come and look at ours for possible ideas but that will have to wait till October until we return home. We are currently in Valdez, AK heading north. We live off of Boerne Stage Rd and I 10. What part of town are you in?

Oh and welcome!!!

Steve

Thanks Steve. I'm finding out there are many more south Texans who own an Escape than I previously thought. We live off Prue Road between Fredericksburg and Babcock, NW side. Bet you're missing some Rudy's right now, but the view more than makes up for it! Happy trails.

When I had a Scamp I just hated people calling it "rat fur". Now that I have an Escape it's......rat fur

My Scamp has rat fur, I like it. Pete Dumbleton coined that phrase years ago... he truly traveled with pet rats. Pete was a valued member of FiberglassRV, a full-timer in his Scamp and has since passed of cancer. RIP Pete... rat fur lives on!

I'm sure Scamp appreciates Pete's contribution to the lexicon.

Welcome to the forum Robert & Yolanda. My wife and I are Escape owners over in Brenham. You'll want to consider building your Escape to handle our warm weather. If you haven't started, spend some time looking back in the archives. You will find a wealth of information that will help you make decisions on your build. We welcome you to also join our Texas Owners Group.

Would love to join Dave. Thanks for the invite. We are going to order the extra insulation and thermal windows too.

Add the "Texas Fan" to your list of options. This will help your refrigerator operate in Texas heat and humidity. Thermostat controlled AC is another good option for here. And yes...extra insulation/double pane windows for sound and heat.
