Hi from Ecuador...
Greetings, all, from Cuenca, Ecuador.
We ordered our 5.0 last week for October '16 delivery and are really excited about everything this trailer has to offer.
One of the things we have really missed about North America for the past 6 years is RVing.
There is no rv infrastructure here and as a result, no rvs.
They are simply not part of the culture.
We are beginning to prepare ourselves for reverse culture shock now...particularly around organized driving practices. Surprisingly, one can actually get used to traffic lights and signage being merely suggestions!
Can't wait!
Best,
Rich and Ella

LOL, last time I rented a car in Grand Cayman the rental companies had a different color license plate so the locals were alerted to those driving on the "wrong" side of the road side of the road for them.

Ecuador? I just Google-mapped a drive to Cuenca from my house. They couldn't map it. This could be the ultimate adventure. My curiosity and the wow factor just expanded, at least by 360°.
Will you be driving up to Chilliwack, and towing back, or will you have your Escape shipped to you by ship? (They do that?)

From post 1 it sounds to me that Rich and Ella are moving back to North America next year and getting their 5.0 in Oct by picking it up or delivery to where they are moving.

Yep they do that. I can confirm, by experience, Escape will ship units by ship half way around the world

Hi: Seef... I think the 5.0TA is too wide to fit in a shipping container!!! At that rate you've got the last one to go. Happy Euro camping. Alf

You're correct About the fitting. The classic 5.0 bearely fits in a high Cuba container. But......... NeXT time i would use roll on roll off shipping. You can ship 18 wheelers that way

Driving from EC
We have sold our vehicle here, an older Toyota Land Cruiser made in Venezuela and will be flying back .. I have spoken to a number of folks who have made the trip to Ecuador from California. The roads in Colombia are notoriously bad and the tolls are astonomical. There are lots of 3 liter CRD Chevy D-Max pickups here that would make great tow vehicles for the 5.0, but they could not be federalized and parts and service would be a real problem.

I'm just getting the hang of the forum..thanks for your patience with my replies.
We probably won't be returning to Ecuador. 0ur plan is to full-time in North America and possibly winter in Baja, Mexico for at least a year, perhaps two.
We expect to find a place we might settle at some point during our travels.

We were in South America last year for a vacation. Loved your sentence that the lights and signs were merely suggestions!! Discovered that quickly! That is our favorite saying while driving here in Houston now! You will love your escape!
