Temporary tags are a fee item issued by each state to make money. Can't come from Canada!

We towed our Escape through 8 states and 5200 miles without plates. We drove conservatively (first time ever towing) and never had a problem. We were glad that we had plates when we got to Louisiana - is seemed like there were police everywhere.

we towed all the way home to Texas without plates or any temp tag last March, no problems at all. We even had to go through the border check point in El Paso. The patrol dog sniffed around the tires and they waved us through. I think the Canadian Leaf on the tire cover is what got us by. Everyone is friendly to Canadians! That is my theory! It didn't matter that our car had Texas tags.
We are keeping that tire cover forever!

We probably wouldn't have had a problem either Robbie, but I just picked up a 30 day temp tag online for $25. Peace of mind I guess.

We were able to get CA plates from AAA before we went to Chiliwack. The documents provided by ETI were sufficient.

I checked on line with the Kansas DMV and they will issue a temp tag for 60 days at a cost of $8.00. That probably will do the trick getting home, though I don't know if it would get us back into Canada. It would be nice to know before we try, or if we dare. I wouldn't care for a big hassle getting in or coming out. Loren

I have been living in Washington State for the past year even though Alaska is my residence. I bought a new to me car down here and expected to get Alaska plates through the mail. I thought I had done that before. No such luck!

A chance quick trip home gave me the opportunity to get my car licensed in person and I brought the plates back to Washington State with me.

If you showed up at your DMV with the title and bill of sale can't you just license your Escape in California before you come up to pick it up?

I built a teardrop trailer in Ukiah about 2003 and when I licensed it all I had were a handful of material reciets for the construction. I don't think anyone even came out to look at it. All I remember was a very long wait.

Here is a simple question for anyone who knows the answer. "What is the height of the space between the bottom of the back window and the edge of the molding where the upper and bottom halves are joined? This is the area where we plan to place the name , "Free Spirit," on the trailer.
Thanks -

Holly

I believe ETI will put this on for you, as they do the rest of the graphics. Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I've seen names on build pics.....

I asked Tammy if the name of our trailer "Tetra II" can be put on the rear and she said "yes". The graphics co. will put it on at the same time the other graphics are done.

Yeah, don't know how aerodynamic it is though.

Sure. Go to this URL:

TXDMV.GOV - Temporary Permits

Then look to the right of the page and click on the blue icon marked "temp permits". Took me a while to find it too!

Oh and by the way, Escape is not on their list of makes. I just typed in the letters ESCP manually in the make field and it worked.

Thanks Robert. Very helpful. I didn't know this was possible. We will do the same in August.
