Hoping for an Escape 19

Hi - New to the RV world and to escape. Have my eye on an Escape 19 to facilitate a summer on the road with my 13 yr old daughter (and pending retirement). I am not sure the delayed delivery (Aug 2022?) will work, but my biggest worry is the “Queen” bed. I think the plans shown 80” x 60” bed size. I am wondering if this is a real measurement? I am 6’1” and worry about squeezing between the walls... Any thoughts?

Is the delivery schedule really 18 months?

Ted

The bed in the 19 is a Queen with the corners rounded to match the contour of the trailer wall. We use queen sized sheets on ours.

Check here for the Escape production schedule, it looks like you won't have to wait until Aug 2022. https://escapetrailer.com/production-schedule/

That appears to be a link to some of the old Escape pages you can find on the web. Our deposit was mid October 2020 for a Feb 25, 2022 completion, and we have not yet been moved up.

Thanks Randy/Barb - that sounds more realistic based on the scheduling video that I watched. I am not sure I can wait that long... Not known for my patience.

There’s lots of RV’s. You just have to find what works for you. We visited the factory in June 2012, and didn’t order until October 2020. Only you can decide if or when it works for you. We’ve had RV’s that I would consider both higher and lower quality than Escapes, and so have my parents. The bottom line is, we had great fun in all of them.

Welcome to the forum Ted.

Our 19 measures 79 1/4 inside. Of course traveling alone with your daughter would allow you to sleep at an angle. The diagonal measurement from corner to rear rounded corner is 8 ft.

If you really want the potential for a longer bed the in the floor plan of a 19...the 21 NE has a wider body.

The bed on the 21 does not abut against the wall at the foot, no a queen but it might work better for you.

Thanks Eggscape - I think 79 ¼ would be fine for me. I just worried that Escape lists it as 80" and it is really <75 like many of the "Queen" RV beds... Because of the delivery time and my lack of experience, I am thinking about just getting something relatively inexpensive for a year or so then moving up to the Escape. I really, really want to stay small and simple, 19' is already a bit bigger than I had envisioned...

We are torn between the 17b and 19, but that bit of extra comfort in bed width really decided the issue. The larger shower and table help, but a good nights sleep was the final decision maker for us. This will be our largest, and likely final RV, and no matter how small, we’ve never filled them up. I’m sure we could have great memories in a Scamp 13, but really want a bath plus separate sleeping and sitting areas. Whatever you get, you can make work. We were going to buy an Escape 17b in 2014 and found an almost new 18’ Forest River 15 miles from home dirt cheap. We had it until a May 2020 windstorm destroyed it. Right now it’s hard to buy at the right price, so we ordered an E19, and will just have to wait it out.

At 6 feet I think you will be fine as I am 5-10 and can’t stand being short bedded. Also the walls are a foam backed vinyl so it is not like you are up against plywood.

Many pillows are overly deep as well which keeps you down in the bed. You may get some extra foot room by getting a pillow that just allows your head to just clear the soft wall.

At your height I don’t think you would be happy with the height of the shower in a 17b.

For us in Canada this is the perfect time to buy a disposable used stick trailer. Many are on sales lots as trade ins taking up space for the spring stock to arrive. This is the time when I purchased our last stick trailer. I took a ladder and check out one at a lot then offered a price. I said this was my wife’s price limit and a penny more I would have go home and bring her back for approval.

Interesting. I am looking at a Forest River right up the street from me here in maine. ½ the price of the Escape. Thinking it might get me into the RV world while waiting for the Escape. After 65 yrs of camping in a tent, I am ready for a little more comfort when satisfying the wanderlust.

I too am looking for something nice used. Seems the covid situation has depleted the used market. Keeping my eyes open for something reasonable to test my tolerance for the RV world. Honestly, I have never been too thrilled with those monster trailers that pulled in next to my tent camp site with stereo blaring. Have developed a tainted perspective of RVs, but my 65 yr old back has softened my judgmental nature...

You can maintain any RV and have fun with it, but there are reasons a Forest River is half the price of an Escape.
