I'll start here

Hello to all on this forum.

My wife and I are planning a trailer purchase by the time we retire in a couple of years. A '95 Jayco popup served us well for many years but hard sides and a toilet are calling us to them. I am very much interested in molded fiberglass and the Escape certainly has caught my internet eye.

Because Confucius said, "The beginning of wisdom is to call things by their proper names," my first question is:

How is Chilliwack pronounced? Is the primary accent on the first syllable or the last syllable? Is the "a" a short "a" as in, whack the ball out of the park? or is it more of an "aw" sound as in, walk the dog? Does the second "i" get a little "e" sound like, have a bowl of chili? or is it barely pronounced like in, California?

It's "chill-a-whack".

Sounds like you're on the same path as us, graduating to a "real" trailer for the golden years.

Where the name comes from ....

https://www.chilliwack.com/main/page.cfm?id=167

“Chilliwack, How did we get our name?

The City derives its name from the Halq’eméylem word “Ts’elxwéyeqw” which elder Albert Louie, of Yakweakwioose, talked about it meaning ‘as going as far as you can go upriver’ in reference to travelling by canoe up the Chilliwack River sloughs leading to Soowahlie. Halq’eméylem is the traditional language of the Stό:lō (People of the River).“

I have no problem taking a crack at Chilliwack and Osoyoos but I'm going to pass on Larry's additions.
Halq’eméylem
Ts’elxwéyeqw
Yakweakwioose
Soowahlie
and of course Stό:lō

Exactly how I was told it was pronounced, but a non-trailer owning acquaintance in the Canadian airline industry told me it is sometimes called “the Whack.”

That should be relatively easy. But again I was “educated” on its pronunciation.
Uh - Soy (like the bean or the sauce) - oose (as in moose).

I generally ask having heard tourists in Florida butcher the pronunciation of localities such as Micanopy and Kissimmee.

Sounds like you are just in time to order your trailer if you want it in a couple of years. I understand that they are taking orders for 2022 now!
