Looking For Advice

I am currently looking to purchase an Escape 5.0TA trailer. I have a Chevy Colorado short (5'2") bed. The Escape site says that a 5'6" bed is the minimum size needed. I have seen on the forum that the Ultimate 5th Wheel Connection will work in my case. Is there anyone out there who can let me know if they tried this and are they pleased with the results.

Thanks in advance,
Nomad54

No specific advice or recommendations coming from me, but these threads should help. Several members are apparently towing a 5.0TA with a short bed.

Thanks for the advice. How long do I have to be a member before I can private message?

You can PM now. What you can't do until you're a trusted member (10 posts or more) is send a hyperlink within the PM. The software will automatically kick out the PM and it won't be delivered. BUT you can get around that by making the info to the hyperlink as text. EG: MyE-mail at gmail dot com.

As a webmaster, I am appalled at you telling someone how to circumvent the system. I can't believe this.

You could also try creating a .jpg of the email address and posting that. Maybe. Or post another 30 posts and gain "Member" status. Then you can do what you want.

It does not take long to gain "member" status. Or spell it out like Donna said.

I think AI can figure out any of these attempts to foil them.

The Escape 5.0 and mid size trucks

I recently talked to the president of ETI during a visit. My wife fell in love with the 5.0 while we were looking at the 19. As I had just purchased a new GMC Canyon, I inquired about the compatibility of it with the 5.0. I was told "absolutely not", the trailer would hit the cab since the wheel wells are so far forward in the box. They had tried this there and proved the point. Since the Colorado is identical to the Canyon. The problem is the same.

Interesting that 4" difference makes all the world different between choices for tow and Escape.

I should start by saying I have the Canyon long bed ... however, I have read several posts by folks with the short bed that are towing 5.0's apparently just fine. I'm not trying to contradict your conversation, just sharing what other folks are doing. Some have picked them up from the factory with the short bed ... .

That fact would really frustrate my wife as She really wanted the 5.0. The good news for me is that it saved me thousands.

I assume that the issue was probably backing in tight spots that require angles less than 120 deqrees.

NO! Im out $7000 because I had same idea, minimum bed for hitch is 6’ AND the Colorado and Canyon DO NOT HAVE SUFICIENT FRAME TO HOLD A FIFTH WHEEL OR GOOSENECK INSTALLATION!!
It will pull their 17 trailor just fine, but wouldnt you prefer pulling a rig down the road than be pushed by it down the road? I ended up with a new GMC SIERRA 4x4 trailor towing pkg had to go w std box not small box, pulls great with Duramax 3.0 L but really wish Id gotten 3/4 ton!! Just a matter of handling and being safe! Im gonna say I told you so!!
