New Escape 19 Owner

Although I have been watching this site for a number of years, I just recently purchased an used Escape 19, in Canada. Getting it across the US border was pretty easy, I did all the paperwork myself, and was through in less than 40 minutes. Since I started in Canada I decided to go by the factory to get a couple of small replacement parts and to say hello. It was busy with people getting new trailers, I think three were getting ready to be delivered to their new owners. I then headed to SUMAS crossing, figuring that all of Escape Trailer that come to the US go through there and it should make the crossing easier. US Customs was helpful, and it was a pleasant experience. My experience with AZ. DMV hasn't been as good as the people that I have run into so far don't seem to know what their own laws are for registering a trailer manufactured outside of the country. I am now trying to work my way through the system, to get my trailer registered, and licensed

My wife and I look forward to enjoying a lot of camping. One reason we got the Trailer is to avoid hotel rooms when we travel as Kansas City BBQ Certified Judges to different events around the western US. We also look forward to meeting other Escape owners.

I'm glad you got a trailer after that long wait. I'd love to hear more about your BBQ judging experiences, too! May you have many happy and safe travels.

We sailed through AZ DMV, in Prescott. The one thing that paved pur way was the certificate of compliance with NAFTA. Initially DMV called our Escape 19 a grey market trailer and demanded we get a Inspection level 3 inspection. The inspector looked at our compliance certificate and down graded the inspection level to 2. Saved us $30 and a much shorter inspection, he just read the numbers on the driver's side.

Our packet when we bought new had the NAFTA letter with dire warnings about getting it replaced. In Phnx there is a level 3 inspection station by one of the auto auction houses. Else where you need an appointment.
