New Escape 19 owner in Winnipeg

Good evening,

We just retired our 2005 R-Vision Hybrid Trailer Cruiser C17 after 15 years of use.

A 2021 Escape 19 came up locally for a good price and we made a deal. It's in my driveway now and we are learning the ins and outs of the features and things that have changed vs our 2005. No AC, manual awning, no decals, solar, storage box, lift, inverter and a few other things.

Looking forward to sharing our experiences, photos, offering help when I can and getting answers to things I need help with.

Some poor photos as it's tucked away at the side of our house. It was a busy day with the trailer deal, getting insurance on a Sunday at 5pm and a new ball size at 6pm as the trailer was diagonal in our driveway.

We tow with a 2019 Toyota Tundra with tow package. It's a gas guzzling, towing champ of a truck. There is a Nova Craft Pal on top with a Thule rack when camping.

Bruce

Great rig you've got there. We'll watch for you around. We're the ones in the silver CrewMax, 5.0TA and sometimes a Lund fishing boat.

I noticed your other thread.....did you get the axle issue sorted out with the previous owner?

Great avatar!

We got it sorted out so I take ownership. He had a quote from Penner Trailers in Winnipeg for 2 new axles and labour. I added taxes and $500 (tires) to that and we deducted it from my offer.

The trailer will get a 2nd opinion and I'll make a decision from there as to repair or replace.

I'm confident it'll all work out in the end. Worst case, I get both replaced and have 2 new axles in a few weeks.

Avatar = Radiohead. Those who know Radiohead will recognize it, otherwise it looks a bit creepy and odd.

Bruce, since you're new to moulded fibreglass trailers you might want to come out to St. Malo in August and check out what people have done with their FG trailers of all kinds. There's still some sites left near the central area of the rally.

Adrian

There are indeed some sites available in the campground but are there specific bays for rally participants?
We may try to attend this year.

Thanks

This was Rushing River this past week.

Setup and take down was a breeze.

I am still learning how to deal with the glitchy hitch receiver. Otherwise, the trailer was awesome.

Thanks. I've seen and read a few threads. I'll have a better look this weekend from underneath (we don't camp on the long weekend) and wrap my head around the workings, so I know what I have to do when I back up.

I'm guessing it's just a matter of different brand than my last, which was likely a bit sloppy) and I need to jerk it forward (which many seem to recommend). I'd rather have it tighter than looser (jokes aside).

When I place the ball by hand under there, it latches and unlatches with ease. A different story with 5k lbs of weight on it.....go figure.

I'm playing around with the solar this weekend. Fridge on propane, no shore power, I'll charge some devices in the evening, throw some lights on, turn the fan on and run the pump a few times. Just looking for a ballpark of how long the stock panel lasts. I don't need to run the heater or stove as we generally don't use those.

Topped up the 6v batteries today. Not sure the previous owner took great care of them. A few cells were low.

We also have two 6V batteries, a 160w solar panel, LED lights, charge 3 or 4 devices and run the water pump and fan as needed. We run the fridge on propane unless itís an odd occasion when we have shore power. The stock battery level indicator with just a few lights on it seldom gets down to half in a day. I realize itís a very basic indicator but itís what we have.

The same panel always shows full batteries by 9am even on cloudy BC mornings. After experiencing that a few times we seldom even concern ourselves with battery charge.

Thatís our experience. YMMV.

I didn't know how our old WDH would work with the propane and storage box ...seems like it works and brought our Tundra back to almost level in a dry-run, driveway hookup.

I'll watch the video on how to get chains correct and bars level etc as I never really wrapped my head around it in the past and would just slap it on and go.

As I'm getting older (51) I'm taking note of safety and torque and level more than in the past.
