Alaska “Z” tag

I was recently at the Anchorage DMV renewing the tags for the trailer and was pleasantly surprised that the state now offers a permanent “Z” tag with no expiration date for trailers and campers. I double checked with the clerk that towable RV’s were allowed the permanent tag, not just snow machine, atv trailers and was assured that our trailer was eligible. For $75.00 walked out with a permanent tag and permanent registration. Scott

Bikes are wonderful machines!

Good move on the part of the state since permanent probably means about 5 years. Then you get a new one.

Sure wish they had that in Texas. Our annual registration fee for trailers is too high, especially for a vehicle that doesn't have a motor and spends most of it's time not on a highway but in storage.

Yes, it’s a good deal. I was spending $50.00 per year. Just putting it out there for my fellow Alaskans. Scott

Fat bike season is coming...

Hi Scott,
Thanks for the info on "Z" tags … interesting. Alaska also has other registration offers. I am paying about $50.00 / year for my trailer registration, however if I wanted to declare that my trailer is a "commercial" vehicle then registration is a one time $50.00 fee (might make insurance costs jump … ??).. example as a remote office. Same with auto's … you can get a "P" tag if you are an 'Old Fart' which is a one time fee as long as you own the vehicle. Only allowed to get a 'P' tad on one vehicle in your fleet.

With a 'Z' tag on your trailer and a 'P" tag on your tow, your pretty well set up.

Drive On,

Tom
