Yes, in some cases using a credit card is even cheaper for the buyer than cash. The card which I usually use gives 1.5% back, too.

I'm not sure what the benefit would be. When I travel in the U.S., I get cash from my home (Canadian) account at local ATMs wherever I happen to be, use my (Canadian) credit card for most purchases, and use my (Canadian) debit card otherwise.

Some Canadian banks (such as TD) have operations in the U.S.; you could check into opening an account with them (still in the U.S.), so you would have branches for that bank available while travelling in Canada. Again, it's not clear to me how this would be worthwhile.

Enjoy your travel up here - even if you don't set up a Canadian bank account, I think you'll find there are no problems with financial transactions.

Another option for military members and veterans is USAA. Not sure if they do business accounts, though:

I don’t bank with them, per se, but do you have their credit card which gives 1.5% cashback, has no foreign transaction fees, and no annual fee.
