Actually, according to Google and Morningstar today, it takes $1.45 CAD (not 69 cents CAD) to equal $1.00 US dollar.

Those darn tricky exchange rate apps!

I was just looking at international currency. And basically showing the difference if you were in the US and buying using CAD.

Try 1 ÷ 0.69 and you will understand.

They better be careful. If US customers feel they've been cheated by being charged more than Canadians or vice versa, their plans to expand may collapse.

That's not how ETI was built.
If I were an American citizen, I would insist on paying the Canadian price in Canadian dollars, if it was to my advantage.

As I always told my kids, Vote with your dollars. And let them know why you bought
or why you did not buy. .69 is a ways from .80. Lots of freeboard. And by their admission there are more trailers coming to the US than are sold in Canada.

Interesting. I was given a different answer, but I couldn’t tell you who gave it to me. I just called the sales number and was asking general questions about different models. I asked if I could pay in CAD and was told yes.

I’ve been in research mode for a few months and was considering a 2016 21 not too far from me, but once I did the CAD to USD conversion, I realized that the used price was only 10% less than new. If purchase from US requires Escape’s published US pricing, that muddies the water a bit.

BTW - great forum! I’ve been lurking for a few months and feel I’ve gotten to know some of you.

I think the difference is how you ask the question. Of course anyone can purchase in Canadian dollars ... if you are not financing through Escape or expecting them to do the exchange.

They are not a bank, they are a manufacturer. So they have a USD price and a CAD price. If you are a US customer and manage the exchange to CAD independently from Escape, then they will honor the transaction in CAD.

Regarding used Escape Trailer, be sure to use the options calculator on the ETI web site to plug in all the options on the used unit. That will give you a fairly accurate comparison between new and used. (And yes, these trailers do hold their value!)

A 'just for grins' quick comparison for an E21 with options I'd likely select using USD and CAD price sheets on the ETI website today:
USD = 33,303; CAD = 41,630

Continuing the 'just for grins' exercise, assuming payment via Transferwise at the exchange rate including fees posted as I type this:
29,149 USD payment yields 41,630 CAD in recipient's account

All prices and rates subject to change of course, but $4,154 out-of-pocket 'savings' is no laughing matter for the frugal US buyer; methinks ETI would be very unlikely to decline that perfectly legal transaction based CAD pricing and deposit of CAD to their account.

Welcome Todd, to our Escape world. There are several Escape owners in Texas, contact the factory and they will put you in touch with an owner near you so you can see one in person.

I agree, I always thought the 2 different pricing would lead to a disparity...

Thank you Jim! Yes, I plan to do that once the world gets back to normal. I was fortunate enough to get to see the 21 just the week before things spiraled out of control.

Welcome Todd! When researching campers a few years ago my wife and I felt ETI offered the best value. The favorable exchange rate at the time made it even more so. Good luck with your camper quest. -Tom

The base pricing we display on the website and in brochures moving forward will be in US funds. Canadian prices will be displayed as well, and for Canadian customers your build sheets will still be in Canadian funds. The reason why we are switching is to improve our pricing competitiveness in the US market. More than 70% of our business is US based. Customers can pay in either USD or CAD.

This is from the Escape website. It indicates customers can pay in either USD ot CAD.

I called ahead of our pick up and was told the same thing. I spoke with the same individual. She did not want to discuss fluctuating exchange rate and said that the reason there were prices listed in both currencies. She was a bit defensive. I don’t think they have sorted out the new pricing strategy. In our case, we paid the agreed price and didn’t pursue it further.

Out of curiosity, was your build sheet (or whatever document you sign) priced in USD at the time of original purchase agreement? If so, I can see ETI enforcing that pricing. When I asked about paying in CAD, the person I spoke with knew I was from the US, so I’m wondering if purchase in CAD can be established up front. From ETI’s perspective, I’m not sure why they would care, unless they are trying to leverage the exchange rate.

So you are saying a Canadian Company is refusing to accept Canadian Funds to pay for a Canadian Product. This impacting to 70-75% of their customers. The difference is around $3700.00 USD on a base 19.

It appears ETI monitors this forum as they have made references to that. It would be interesting to see a reply on this, and to hear the reasoning behind that decision.
