Insurance
Learned something interesting today ( but maybe everyone else already knows this ) If one buys insurance for a travel trailer ( value approx. $22,000.) connected to ones auto insurance it is more expensive than if ones buys it connected to ones home insurance . In our case it would be $358. for a year with the auto policy .... $178. for a year on the home policy . Both includes collision, vandalism , fire/hail and both are with the same company ..... HUH ........ reason is supposedly that the home " policy ' recognizes that there are very few claims for rvs ??

Re: Insurance
possibly they think the rv is being used as a second home and not being towed behind the car for 1000's of miles? I'll have to ask my insurance agent the same.

Re: Insurance
The coverage in both cases is collision/hail/fire/vandalism regardless of where the trailer is located , on the road / campground /parking lot or streetside ........

Re: Insurance
It matters where you keep the trailer when it is not in use.
You pay less if you keep it at your home. My trailer insurance isn't connected to my car insurance, but that was a key question I was asked. Where does it reside?

Re: Insurance
My insurance is the same no matter where it is stored. Could be some carriers care, and others don't. It is in my driveway from Easter to Thanksgiving, but stored alongside a rental garage the rest of the year.

Re: Insurance
Since I just renewed and have my papers right here, some numbers for comparison:
I have deluxe coverage ( regular ).
Guaranteed replacement cost ( $250 deductible )
Detached private structures ( $5,000 )
Personal property ( $5,000 )
Emergency vacation expense ( $200/day, $2,000 max )
And, this year it cost me $207.00
It's AVIVA Elite through HUB International

Re: Insurance
Actually, another potential factor to if it is connected to home or auto is:
When we bought our first house, the insurance was half what we were paying for tenants' insurance in a basement suite.
I think it all comes down to their assessment of the risk. And, home owner carries less risk.

And I double checked. Should my trailer be written off or stolen, it would be replaced with a 2014 Escape 17B. Next year, a 2015.

I checked with several insurance companies (Allstate, State Farm, etc.) and all of them told me that in order to insure the trailer, I had to also insure the tow vehicle with them. (We have State Farm for just about everything so I ended up using them.)

We just received our VIN from ETI yesterday, so this is a timely thread. In neither this thread nor the other two "insurance" threads (under Paper Escape) is there any mention of Good Sam. Is there anyone who can advise about their coverage? We have AAA for house, vehicles, etc.
Regarding roadside assistance, we're concluding that -- based on yet another thread -- that GS is superior to other roadside assistance insurances. Would anyone advise differently?

Had to chuckle when I worked on getting a Good Sam quote as Escape wasn't listed on their menus I had to call in. The agent remarked "we need to add Escape to our menus because you're the 3rd call this week and there seem to be more and more of them out there"..........
BTW, they were 80% less than adding it to my truck policy with Farmers Insurance.

This thread is quite disheveled. Somehow we are talking both road-side assistance and trailer insurance. I would try to sort it out, but have no idea where to start.
So, please, at the top of your post, put Trailer Insurance, or put Road-side assistance.

Are they not both a form of insurance? But yes someone may need to insure their trailer versus insure that they get their flat fixed or a tow home.

Apples and oranges are both fruit.
I have split Road-side Assistance from Insurance. If somebody finds their post under the wrong label, PM me.

Got my insurance papers today. Has separate sewer backup endorsement. Not sure how I could ever have to use that coverage.

I'm thinking black water backups are typically one of the worst accidents that cause damage... other than fire. And may be more common than we know.

For $9, I'm not going to sweat it. But, seems to me an event defying the laws of gravity is unlikely.
Apparently, I've always had it, but it wasn't broken out as a separate.
Have earthquake too.

I think I introduced the impure thoughts regarding roadside insurance. Sorry.
In my defense, I thought that all insurance is sort of like a hole into which one pours money and yet no cheese is in sight.
