On the bright side

For Americans anyway, Canadian dollar dropped to 71.94 cents US today.

Depressing how much money I lost last month. Others I know did way worse.

But hey, it will turn around. The future always has brightness in it.

IF I was interested in purchasing an Escape trailer, I'd be all over that rate. It's about 12 cents lower than when I bought in 2014. Bummer on the 401(k). Sigh. I'm not looking at mine. I started with nothing may end up with nothing. Fortunately it's not currently needed and I have about 4-1/2 years before I'll need to start drawing. Yep, look at the bright side!

Morning Assessment

My wife often asks me how Im doing the first thing in the morning. i always personally satisfied when i answer " Vertical".

Money, food, the weather, and plans for the day and beyond will fall into place.

Better let the dog out.

That's true. But, the problem is if you cash in ( die ) before the market recoups losses.

If I “cash in” (kick the bucket) then I won’t worry about my investments! I was initially responding to Padlin’s post.

As long as you don’t cash in (die) because you starve or freeze to death it doesn’t make a lot of difference. As we used to say when we learned to play dice games as kids.
“Save your Confederate money boys, the South will rise again.”

All the money I have in a mutual fund came from my buyout, so I take comfort that it is really the company's money. Makes no sense, but makes me feel better.
And, the mutual fund is in a retirement fund, so if it goes down, the government gets less tax when I take it out.

Top agricultural corn ground in Iowa is selling at about $10,500 to $ 11,000 an acre. The stuff with a lower CSR ( Corn Suitability Rating) in southern Iowa is at around $6,000. When they report land value they figure CSR point value figures on the sales price divided by the CSR.
So a typical old homesteaded farm of a quarter section (160acres) in our part of Iowa is at about $9,600 an acre or to (sell the farm) around a million five. Pop quiz in math class, ag class and economics lab next Friday, bring a blue book.

Or, at least in the US, if you are over 70 1/2, your minimum distribution ie $ you must withdraw from your 401 / 403b during 2020, is based on the fund's value as of December 31, 2019. That depletes things a bit faster than one would like under the current market.

On the bright side... to be young again! I don't normally post pictures of my family on social media, I think that's bad practice. But thought I'd share this will y'all.

I have three granddaughters and they all think they're Princesses. In this Grandmother's heart... they are.
Well it snowed at their house today and the youngest (who's 4 y/o) knew she wanted to go out and show the world she's Elsa from Frozen. She even has the dress to prove it.

Focus on the good things in your world

"Elsa" is adorable, Donna! My son in Portland sent me a photo of the snow at his house today. Seems pretty crazy for this time of year!

On the bright side, I have told my children that my goal in life is that my last check bounces. In the meantime, I have a nice trailer and money for food and gas.

We are heading home now, but if the weather were just a bit warmer I would be tempted to stock up with enough food for a month, and head to a national forest campground where I could just hideout for a couple of months and ignore the rest of the world.
