We just sent our first check in for 23.5k USD and the rate was around 1.09.

I agree neal's math does not look correct.

We made our final payment on 1/2/14 and the exchange rate was 1.066.

I think Neal just double typed a digit. According to Canadian Dollars (CAD) to US Dollars (USD) Rates for 1/17/2014 - Exchange Rates, the exchange rate was 0.9122 which would convert $19k to around $20,672.

Sorry, my bad. I meant to type $20,620.

Hello,

If I pay Escape using a check drawn on a U.S. Bank, should the amount written on the check be U.S. Or Canadian dollars?

Thanks!

The exchange rate is always moving, but I think ETI changes enough money between their US and Canadian banks that they get a very good rate... Much better than my credit union was able (or willing?) to offer.

I'd make it easy on my US bank and send in the check in U.S. funds and leave the dollar exchange to the ones who do it all the time - ETI.
Get it close and you can settle the small balance with a credit card or in my case, the rate was better than I expected so I added some small items from the accessories catalog to the invoice.

U.S. Their bank does the conversion when it is deposited. ETI will then send you an updated build sheet showing the amount credited in Canadian dollars.

The U.S. dollar has been at $1.40 Canadian (and well above, continuously for 5 years), but not since 2003. Glad to hear it was just a typo.

Historical exchange rates... because my memory is not good enough for this level of detail!

That is a very nice rate, .90589, which is within 1/100th of todays XE Currency published rates. I assume that you mailed a check to Escape Industries payable in USD and they deposited it into their Canadian bank and your result was the 28,145 CD?

Correct. We mailed it to ETI on March 4th. It was received by ETI on March 19th - (very slow, maybe delayed by my having it sent by registered mail?). It was finally deducted from our checking account today and ETI was able to tell me the exact exchange amount.

Right - registered and certified add steps to the delivery process, so they can only take the same time or longer. If you want faster - which also includes some degree of tracking - some sort of "priority" service is called for.

why not wire?

I was at my bank today and inquired about wiring the funds to ETI's US account.. Cost was $25. Seems like the most easy and sure?

This seems like the right thread. I qualify for RV financing via my credit union, but I had assumed that they wouldn't finance an out of country purchase. Is this possible? I don't want anyone's personal financial info, just ... has anyone financed from the US? If so, I need to move up my time table!

I financed through Essex (easy to locate by googling rv and boat financing) and they were easy to work with. They also had no problem working with Tammy at Escape. Their rates were lower than State Farm (yes, they finance cars and rv's) or my bank. Also, since an escape with bathroom is considered self contained, you can deduct interest from taxes as a second home. (Disclaimer, be sure to consult your tax advisor)
