WA state resident's sales taxes on a new Escape?

It appears that the closer we get to taking delivery of our 19 next month, the more questions I have (sorry). Can any of you WA state residents tell me what our state sales tax liability I should expect to have and what paperwork I'll need to have in my possession in order to get my tags? Thanks much in advance for your help!

Tammy will have all the paperwork ready to go that you will need, including the customs form that will be stamped at the border. I needed nothing other than what she provided. (I just took it all in with me, but I think they only needed the bill of sale and that customs form....maybe one other but I can't remember.)

We paid approx. $1700 in sales tax. I think the rate is around 7% but if you want to know for sure, call your local vehicle licensing office.

It was all easy and straight-forward, just painful to write that check!

I'd suggest you make copies of all your documents before giving them for tags, both the State and Federal Customs came back later for additional proof, just a heads up to make extra copies.

Yes, scan and make copies of everything that Tammy sends you. Now that Escape exports the trailers, you will be given (along with your trailer) the stamped Entry Summary in Sumas after you and the trailer have passed (separately) through C&I. I took everything into the license place but they only took the stamped summary and one other thing. The state tax including filing fees, etc., came to about 8.8% (ouch). I was handed my plate with tags and was good to go.

Our Bill of Sale from Escape was in Canadian dollars, in those days there was a big difference, now they are about even. Our DMV had lots of trouble with converting loonies to dollars. I just looked and it is 1.01 loonie to 1.00 US, unless you get the Bill of Sale in US dollars be prepared to argue for the conversion. You may save a few dollars on taxes.

I took in papers showing exactly what I paid in USD. The guy ignored that and said they just use the exchange rate for that day. Fortunately, it was slightly in my favor. Had it not been, I might have put up an argument but probably wouldn't have gotten anywhere.
