Difference in price

The reason for the difference in price is that there was a problem with the frame at the first crossbar. It has been repaired, but at some time in the future, the frame may need to be replaced. If I don't sell it as is, I will do that and the price at that time will reflect that.

The trailer has a basically all the bells and whistles that Escape offered when built. There are other items as listed in a fully detailed description which I can send anyone - the file is a 3 page PDF with pictures but is too large to attach.

Frame

The frame cracked at the first crossbar. It has been welded and an angle bracket been welded across it as well as two side pieces. Because of the repairs the front end of the hitch angles slightly up. It has made no difference in the ride on the back of the car.

How do you crack a frame?

It appeared that there was a weld at the point where the side rails were welded to the crossbar. After 2 years it broke at the weld. I have no idea why, it was not overloaded, I had it weighed before we left year one and there was no problem. I also used a coupler scale to check the weight there. My only thought that it had something to do with the speed bumps in Mexico and the weight on the equalizer hitch when we hit one just too sharply.

To clarify something

The problem with the frame of the trailer occurred in October 2012. At that time it was repaired. Last fall I had an additional angle iron added to the original repair for added security.

The trailer has gone over 40,000 km since the problem.

My statement about price was allowing for the possibility that it MIGHTrequire a new frame.

Proper welding procedure

A caution. All Escape frames are made using T1 steel box members. T1 is a very high tensile strength material and its absolutely critical to use proper welding procedures; i.e. pre heat, welding consumable, etc for any welding. Any additional material added to the T1 frame should ideally be T1 or at least in the same material grouping for compatibility.
