Escape 19

We are considering a purchase of an Escape 19 but would like to rent one first. Anybody have one for rent? We live in Northern California/San Francisco Bay Area, but would willing to rent one anywhere in the western United States or B.C. We are a mature couple with no kids or pets and will take great care of your trailer. Please contact us with any offers for rentals. Thanks you.

Steve, it might be difficult to find someone willing to rent it in your area. Have you seen them in person yet? If not, it might be worth a trip up to Chilliwack BC to just see one in person and spend some time in the showroom. Not the same as camping or towing of course, but might give you an idea about whether to continue to look for a rental unit or not. You can also contact ETI and ask for a referral to a 19 owner in your area if you haven't already.

We have seen a 17’ and liked everything but thought the 19’ might work better for us. I’m a little concerned because I’m hoping to pull it with my 2016 Honda Ridgeline. We would be at the limit for the Ridgeline, but I think it will work. But trying it first would be nice. Any thoughts for me?

Our experience was similar. At first we even ordered a 17, but once we saw the 19's in person, we quickly changed. Best choice for us, and we love the true queen bed.

If your Ridgeline is the AWD V6 and has the 5K lbs towing capacity, you can do it. It won't be the best towing experience possible, but it can be done. If it's the FWD model, I'd say the 19 is out. Also, pay close attention to your payload capacity. Many vehicles run out of payload capacity before towing capacity. Some of the best advice I ever received when we were first looking for a trailer years ago was this: tow vehicles come and go, trailers not so much. Pick a trailer that's right for you, then figure out how to tow it.

Yep I'm AWD. 5000lb towing limit. As I said I am right at the limit, but I think it will work.

Renting it, no, but I'd be happy to show you mine. I have the Classic 19 and am in Santa Cruz. Also contact ETI, there are other 19's in the Bay Area that may be closer to you. We're taking it to Trinity Lake for the week of the 4th, so after that would work. I'll send you a PM with my cell number.

If you decide you really like the 19 you could look for a used Classic (1st gen) one as they are quite a bit lighter.

I thought I would move up from a 16' Scamp to the 17' Escape but one step inside one (thanks, Bob--from the outside it looked perfect) and knew immediately it wouldn't do. Aisle just too cramped. Found a guy locally with a 19 (thanks, Dave) and decided on the 19. No need to rent. Like with art, you may not understand it but you know what's good when you see it.
