Escape trailer in B.C.
WANTED - Casita in BC
Are you a Casita 17' owner who is planning a trip to Chilliwack, BC to pick up your new Escape trailer?
We live in BC and are looking for a 2000-2012 17' Casita without the side dinette captain chairs if possible. No smoking, no pets.
Take a trip up to BC with your trailer and we will buy it!
Now you can enjoy your Casita right up until the day you pick up your new Escape.
Anyone interested? - John

Well that's interesting. We do have a 2004 Spirit Deluxe with the side Dinette ( no captains chairs) that we will be selling ... Hmmm...
I've booked Air BnB all the way out, and we're coming from N.C....

What a good idea John.
You probably already know that you need to legally import a trailer from the States in order to get it inspected and registered in Canada. I see you are not that far from the border though so would be easy to meet someone there and get the required forms etc,

I'm a 'what if' guy. What happens when a trailer is towed all the way from NC and the buyer sees it and doesn't want it anymore? What then? A low-ball offer that can't be accepted by the seller? Go back to the US and try to sell it there?

Right, my thoughts exactly. Sounds a bit risky. I know it would be much easier to sell it here and have the cash in hand for the big trip.
Yeah.

But no one knows until the question is asked. Shoot maybe the OP will find a Casita seller in Seattle, WA or further north that's buying an Escape...

What if
Glenn is a what if guy. “What if I stop at your camper and we tip a couple of beers”. And I am such an obliging fellow I say “ I only drink two kinds, cold and free.”

Don't forget that if a seller (of a Casita) is coming to Chilliwack from the US of A and the Casita is being sold to a Canadian purchaser, the trailer will have to be imported into Canada in accordance with Canadian law. Otherwise, the purchaser will not be able to register the trailer in Canada.

Although that's not a very onerous situation. Unlike a car, where there's a waiting period between the time you submit the paperwork and the time you can then cross the border, it's not much different than arriving at the border with goods to declare.
If the Canadian buyer completed the transaction in Blaine etc. all they need to do is declare the trailer at the border, do some paperwork and pay the tax. Then a quick trip to Canadian Tire for an inspection to confirm that it has the basics and it's done.
But hauling a trailer across the country on spec. is a tough call. For me, I'd want 50% pre-paid and non-refundable. I guess I'm just not a very trusting person.

It would be worth it for the buyer to fly out and see the trailer and decide- but I agree, more likely to find one closer. However, try editing the title of the thread as this was not obvious to me and someone who already ordered an Escape might not even read it.

Canadian airfares are substantially higher than those in the US. I wouldn't fly to Calgary to check out a trailer.

Hi everyone-all good questions regarding my idea of future Escape owner bringing their Casita to BC for me to buy. Concerns regarding a deal that falls through at the last second because I don't like the trailer and registration at boarder issues are not a problem. I have purchased three boats from the US and registration, safety check taxes etc are dealt with at the local insurance agency. As to deal falling through due to buyer changing mind, with owners permission ,I would pay for a RV tech to go through trailer prior to settling on deal.

John I know you are looking for a Casita, but would you consider a 17 Escape since there's one for sale in Salmon Arm. I don't think Michel has sold it yet.
