2-way hot water tank option

Can someone explain what the 2-way hot water tank upgrade option entails? What is in the standard build and what are the advantages of the upgrade?

We are working on our 19' build sheet. Any replies appreciated.

The standard water heater is propane only. The 2 way heater heats with propane or electricity or both at the same time. We have the 2 way on our current trailer and will again when we order our new trailer. I will admit in the 6 years of owning a FG trailer we have never run out water heater on propane.

it's worth it. saves propane when you have an electric hook-up. gives you options.

The dual fuel refers to either wood or coal fired. While wood is more available everywhere you go, we find the coal to burn longer, requiring less feeding. I prefer the dual fuel water heater, even if it is that 120V/propane one Steve refers to.

I too like the coal option the best. Only drawback is where to store the shovel used to feed the water heater. Where do you store yours, Jim?

Living just 4 miles north of the Union Pacific main line that hauls millions of tons of coal annually out of Wyoming, east to where it is used to fire the giant steel mills in Ohio and Pennsylvania, i simply wait until the steam locomotives stop for water, put down my spray paint cans and climb the side of a coal car and fill a gunny sack full of coal ( about 225 lbs) and climb back down with the bag over my shoulder. That coal heats my Escape water for a whole weekend. It is CLEAN coal! I haul it home over the handlebars of my Schwinn bicycle,
4 miles up hill.

I thought you were using it with your Stanley Steamer?

Burns too hot for the steamer and the Case Traction engine, I like Locust
for that. Used to use coal in the stoves at the ice Rinks in Fairmont Park in Council Bluffs,
Iowa though. Cherry Red IS a color of hot iron.

Hi: Iowa Dave... Funny you should refer to coal. I just picked up some Black Coal for our trip south... Railway City Brewing Co. 6 tall boy cans ought a do it!!! Alf

Jack And Nancy from Sarnia were kind enough to provide me with a
Dead Elephant on a couple of occasions. Tasty for sure. When I describe a dark place I usually say darker than a black cat in a coal bin eating licorice.

As my buddy describes what he like most about my porter - he says it has that great ashtray flavor....

...and I think the dual fuel option is an excellent choice - regardless of what 2 sources you use!

On the same note: When in a campground with full hookups I use both their electricity and my propane at the same time and take almost endless showers. (It takes a lot to get me clean.)

So traveling down US56 today between Lawrenceburg and Madison Indiana - along the Ohio river, I noticed all the power plants billowing out the smoke from the coal. Then I got to wondering "in my house I have a vent-less LP fireplace" and I decided to invent a vent-less coal burning power plant!! Wish me luck!

But seriously - that 2-way water heater - that's one option I would not even think about doing without - just do it!! You can run fully on AC and not even open the LP tanks when your plugged in!

Aha, but if you don't camp where there are power-bushes, then two-way is a waste of money, or will take forever to recoup the upfront cost.
I turn the propane heater on for twenty minutes to half an hour before needing hot water and then I turn it off. Stays hot enough to do dishes for most of the day.
