Alga in fresh water tank

This is probably a well beaten thread, but here goes. After sitting for a couple of weeks I get a green tint to the fresh water. Done the bleach and sanitizer treatments and they work for a short time (was hoping to use the tank as an emergency water source).
Asked fellow owner and he has no problems, but he did get the undercoat. Is the fact that the escape has a translucent tank under the frame catching reflected sunlight and starting growth? My old camper had an internal tank and did not suffer this problem. I am considering spray painting the tank black to stop the sunlight and hopefully the growth. Any thoughts from the community?

The translucent tank isn't the problem. Many of us have used them for years without ever having an algae problem. That being said a black coating wouldn't hurt but I don't think that it'd solve your problem.

I've had boat tanks that were opaque f.g. and opened them up and it almost put me off drinking water from them. Stuff does grow in both the tank and the lines and for most folks regular sanitizing is all that's required.

What is your water source? Is it chlorinated city water to start? If not then I'd suspect the water source. If so, then more chlorine shock treatment would probably fix the problem.
