The trailer's service cord should not be plugged into the 30 amp pedestal receptacle under load. Plugging in under load can damage the pedestal's 30 amp receptacle and the male cord cap on the trailer's service cord . Shutting off the pedestal's 30 amp circuit breaker , plugging in the cord and then turning the 30 amp breaker back on will solve this problem . But this method can damage the pedestals 30 amp breaker if the 30 amp circuit is under load.
Turning off the trailer's circuit breakers and then turning them back on under load is also a poor practice.
Most people are only worried about damaging their trailer and not about damaging the campgrounds pedestal .
The reason that many campground pedestal receptacles and breakers are damaged is from abuse by campers.
I have seen people plug / unplug their trailer with their A/C (s) turned on and then wonder why their trailer's cord cap has burn marks on the blades or the pedestal breaker trips or they draw an arc.

We are talking about the same thing, there is really only one main breaker, the one at the power pedestal, if it is off then so is your trailer main breaker. If your pedestal does not have a main breaker, then use your in house unit. But convenience wise, use the one outside your trailer.

That was in the old days. Now all you have to do is peek in and see if the microwave display is on.

Better you than me.

You don't have to kneel down, you can do it by feel. Just reach down and feel for the top breaker.

Must be the reason I find the breakers off when I get to a site.

Never heard of this turning on/off the breakers before, easy enough to do, at least on the power pole.

Come to think of it, until I got the Escape and started long trips I rarely went to camp grounds with any kind of hookups.

Well, at 59 I bet I am well below the average here.

And as a bonus, I don't act anywhere near my age.

I just check that things are off in the trailer, especially the electric on the water heater, and then plug in or unplug. Have never had a problem with anything. Loren

If mine ever blinks I'm heading for the hills - it is stored under the bed! Of course it could happen - I just left Roswell, NM...

The MAIN breaker in the trailer is indeed the main breaker for the trailer.

No one mentioned testing the power before plugging in the trailer. I was told to ALWAYS test the power both with a tester and then with a power probe to make sure the correct hole is hot. Surely I can't be the only one who does this.

I'll have an EMS on my new trailer, but I still plan to test the power at the pedestal.

It occurs to me that I can't plug my tester into the power pole. I would need an adapter.

Found the MAIN breaker

Turns out I wasn't bending over far enough when looking at the panel while seated in the dinette. U-shaped, so I was basically right next to it. It's right under the lip from where I was looking at it, which is why I never saw it.

Yay! The crowd is thrilled that I found it.
