fresh water tank filled when hooked up
Another problem that developed on my recent 2 week trip was when I was hooked up to water in a campground. At some point I noticed that my fresh water tank went from 1/3 full to full and then I saw that water was seeping out of the fill hole. I was still hooked up to water and had NOT filled the tank manually. It also looked like the gray tank had filled up . Any ideas on what is going on here? I wonder if it was a scallywag messing with my rig while I was gone.

The check valve in the pump is stuck or not sealing
GB Disclaimer : I do not own an Escape so my water pump check valve may work differently than yours

This Escape owner would say the same thing.

Quite a few people have had this happen and I think it probably happened to us. Escape knows about it and you might want to get what they are saying to do about it lately.

Yes, seems very likely to be the cause, but how does that also fill the gray tank?

Also FYI- when searching "sanitize water tank" I came across some guy doing a seminar pitching a Thetford sanitizing product. Big time RV dude saying that bleach kills the seal in the pump. That may be true, however I suspect that happens more often than not when one uses way too much bleach!

Being pre Horst, I would suspect the gray sensor is showing it's usual bad reading.

Same thing happened to us on our maiden voyage. We were hooked up to campground water (using the regulator on the hose) with the tank about 1/3 full. Later noticed that the tank became full.

Mine filled this past week too. Joking aside about my trailer always seems to get whatever ailments are discussed here a week or so later, I am testing to see if it might have been because I had the pump switch on by mistake at that campground.

Albeit, there is A LOT I don't understand....but why would having the pump on matter, if no taps/spigots/showers/toilets running ever fill the grey tank? I'm confused.

Our policy, long driven by boating and being careful with water, is that the water pump is off if you're not using it and certainly when underway.
One RV we were delivering had a very stylish single lever kitchen faucet. At the end of the day, to our horror, our previously full water tank was empty and our grey water tank had a lot of water in it. Turns out that the faucet handle could move with the slightest touch. So it vibrated open a bit and while we made miles it made the tank empty. Probably the only time we ever left the water pump on and the very worst RV to do it in.

Sumac, I was referring to the fresh tank. 12 hrs so far on city water and no extra in fresh.

That happened on our last trip also. I called ETI and they told me to shut off the city water and run the pump a few times to see if it would reset the pump valves to prevent back flow into the tank and call them back if it didn’t. Otherwise it would be a faulty pump. It worked like a charm for the rest of the trip. Good luck.

Replaced water pump
The first night in our Escape 21, the fresh water tank filled when connected to city water. By tapping on the water pump I was able to reduce the flow substantially. I e-mailed ETI and Reace answered and immediately sent me a new water pump. I installed it and no further problems. I asked Reace about returning the old pump.
He said to keep it for a spare.

fresh water tank filling
Here is Reace's advice:
"There is an internal check valve in the water pump that prevents water from back flowing into the fresh tank. If this valve is not seated properly it will cause this issue. You can try running water through the pump to try to flush this valve and see if it will seat. Otherwise you may need to have the pump replaced."
I ran the the pump/water a few times and it took care of the problem.
Thanks to everyone for your help.
