Hot water heater operation.

Thanks and kudos to Rubicon, Brian B-P and Jon V especially for the clear and concise instruction on hot water heater use.

I learned from them that the option of 2-way operation meant the following (assuming I understood their earlier posts):
-the outside-the-trailer switch controls the electric heating;
-the inside-the-trailer switch controls the propane heating; and
-operating the two simultaneously is also an option.

Also, on the propane switch, the "FLT" light means it's attempting to fire up.

Makes perfect sense, once it's explained.

Thanks!

You’re welcome. You stated it perfectly with one clarification. “FLT” is fault. It does light up while the hot water heater is attempting to light and then goes out once lit. If the system fails to light three times it locks out and the FLT light should stay on. To reset one must toggle the inside switch off, wait 5 seconds and then turn back on to reset the ignition cycle.

Also just for clarity the above is for newer trailers with the hot water heater switch and DSI FLT light integrated into the black KIB panel. Older trailers have the separate Suburban hot water heater switch. Instead of “DSI FLT” it says “RESET”. Operation is the same. (The lighted power switch on the left on the Suburban switch was my own addition to know the HWH is on. If I’m not mistaken the switch is lit on the newer KIB panels when on)

Very useful exchange. I have captured it in my knowledge base document.

Melusine - Thank you! Please share other learnings as you synthesize them!
