Hot water tank issues

So I'm new to ,having the luxury of having an onboard shower/hot water tank.So I filled my water system.Pump works etc. Turned switch on the water tank.I here it ignite.BUT IT GOES OUT.It stays lit for 5 mins.,pressed the reset. It relights ,goes out again in mins.Water out of the hot side faucet is still cold.Is there something I'm missing. Thanks in advance..

Are you sure you don't have the hot water tank bypassed? If it is bypassed, there may be no water in the tank at all and the hot water heater will shut itself off.

My first thought too, and something I would check out right away, before you try to light it again. The propane burner can survive this, but it puts lots of wear on it. If the tank is empty, and you turn on the electrical element to heat the water, it will burn out the element. (I don't care to discuss how I know this either ).

I may be stating the obvious, but you should verify that you have water in the tank by pulling on the hot water tank pressure relief valve. The pressure relief valve is on the outside of the trailer above the on/off switch. If it's full, water will spill out.
