Jeffrey and David, Thank you for your help and information. I was able to Oder the Houghton 9500 AC. I greatly appreciate everyone’s help with sorting this out. I am having the AC shipped to a shop in Belllingham WA to be installed shortly after pick up to have for our trip across the country. Everything is now finalized.

I just received my 9500 btu houghton ac !! Any specific/special circuit breaker needed? I’m thinking a 15 amp breaker is good for the unit with a max 14.6 amp rating.

Delivered without installation instructions providing guidance for such power service requirements? If so, that's unfortunate.

That should be on a 20A breaker (with a 12 gauge wire which Escape should have already run to the roof opening). You typically don’t want to load a breaker beyond 80%.

Please share your experience as you progress.

I have not ordered yet but am in the process. Asked a RV repair shop for an estimate and other details before placing my order.

Like many, we had planned to get the Coleman, and when it became unavailable we decided to install after delivery. I’ve looked at a variety of options including Coleman Mach 1, RecPro 9500, 12V mini split, and others. Ultimately, I’d like to be boondocking or dry camping most of the time, and ideally we would follow the weather. However, both my son and father in law live in El Paso. So, there’s that.

We’ll pick up our 21C in Sumas next month with the max solar available from ETI - 2 panels and 2 lithium batteries plus a Zamp port. We plan to use the batteries to run a 12v fridge. I don’t think we’d be able to run the AC off the batteries without major solar upgrades of every sort. Maybe down the road.

For now, I’d be happy with a quiet AC that cools and dehumidifies without constant cycling. At this moment I’m leaning toward the Coleman Mach 1. Tomorrow that may change.

Has anyone installed or considered the Mach 1? What did you wind up going with?

Based on the lower noise level and quality of design/construction I would be all over the 9500 BTU Houghton (RecPro) unit if I didn’t already install a mini-split. Not sure if there is noise data published for the Coleman Mach 1 but the one my father had on his Scamp made you think the trailer was on a runway taking off.

James: Glad this worked out. Is it safe to assume they will have the proper breaker on hand? Might be worth checking with them if you haven’t already. I believe you will need a 20A. “A/C Ready” just has the end of wire coiled up in the power center.

We too have ordered 9500 BTU Houghton (RecPro). The RV shop told me it is ours whether it fits or not - and I bravely said yes. The AC supposed to get to the shop on June 30th, and the shop will work on that, brake adjustment and the warranty issue (fresh water level) in addition to installing the AC...

Well worst case scenario, I don’t think you’d have any problem reselling it for what you paid. I scheduled an appointment in Bellingham to have our ac installed. The place told me before ordering any products to coincide with a service appointment I should call to confirm the seller has the item ready to ship. She said a lot of suppliers indicate they have products in stock when they do not. I did as she suggested and was told by one company that an item they showed in stock was actually at least a 6-8 week wait for them to get the product from the manufacturer.

We had the Houghton 9500 successfully installed on on our Escape 5.0. Since it was done by the RV shop, I do not have the details of the installation but it looks good. We have not camped with it yet, so do not have the experience of using it yet. But, there were questions concerning the size and fit with the solar panels on the thread earlier. None of those caused any trouble.

I think your correct. No issues on fit of the 9500 or 13,500 Houghton unit on the 5.0. Several of both of those sizes have been installed recently with no issues. Thanks for your input, the Houghton seems to be a great choice!

We completed our install. New AC is working really well - great upgrade. Have an Eaton AFCI/GFCI 20A breaker BRN120A1CS on this circuit. Have many step-by-step images. PM if interested.

Received a second Houghton AC3400 today that goes on our daughter's 21NE this coming weekend.

Do you think the 13,500 is the right size? Your Texas heat will tax any AC. I'm going for that size as well and hope I have no short cycling issues... Your experience with yours is invaluable to us..

Our best answer is here - which is we don't know yet. It is working well today with trailer in mostly direct sun, temp 96, heat index 100, little wind.

Typical summer conditions expected for many southern states in summer. Heat index here in North Florida have been above 100 degrees with heat index a lot this summer. Unusual , but not that unusual.
I got back in town last wednesday and Heat Index been above 100 since..103-107. Tomorrow suppossed to moderate a bit

I need to replace the 2019 default noisy AC on my E5.0 due to it no longer working and the RecPro appears to be a good choice - IF it fits.

I have the (front &) rear solar panel so knowing that it has been done would alleviate concerns.

Have 2021 (Aug) 5.0 with two solar panels, RecPro fit fine. Hardest part is getting it into position and sealant placed properly. Works great
