Low point drain

Just out of curiosity, why do we close the low point drain? If there was a screen over the exit tube to keep bugs out, wouldn't it be better to have it constantly draining?

Once it is drained, it is drained. Nothing left, so might as well close it up.

I guess if you hooked up to city water at another time and had forgotten it was open, it would be running the water out, right? There are those who leave the low point drain open all winter because they figure no little amount of water left somewhere in the lines can get down there and freeze.

Ours has one if you are talking about the drain for the fresh water tank. Just to the rear of the left rear wheel.

Nope. Those are two different drains. At some point ETI dropped the low point drain ( my recollection from posts ).
I have both the fresh water drain and low point drain on my 2009.

No, there is also a low point drain that empties all the water lines, my 19 had one.

So how do you drain your lines with no low point drain on the 21'?

I go up a steep hill and open the door?
ETI says one is not needed if you properly winterize. I asked for the e-z winterization pump set up where I insert a tube in the antifreeze and turn on the pump until it comes out of the faucets.

Unconfuse me. I said at some point ETI dropped the low point drain. You say your 19 had one and your 21 does not.

Any chance you can clarify?

My 2012 Escape 19 had a low point drain, my 2014 Escape 21 does not have a low point drain, if ETI discontinued the drain in all models after 2012 I do not know, but the stated facts are what they are.

I think it was when ETI created the new winterizing instructions using compressed air some time in 2013, and also discussed in the forum. I could be mistaken but think ETI prefer compressed air to winterize toilet valves more effectively. Our Nov 2013 built 19 does not have a low point drain.

I have had 4 rv's before the 2010 Escape 5.0. Only the Escape has a low point drain. The other RV's were drained using compressed air. I winterize the 5.0 with compressed air in conjunction with the low point drain. I like the low point drain.

Yeah, I really like my low-point drain. So simple to use, and very effective. I tried blowing my lines afterwards, the first time I used it, but got no more than a bit of a spit out. I much prefer it, or blowing out the lines, to pumping RV antifreeze through the lines.

If I could find an odorless, tasteless RV antifreeze I'd use it. But that stuff smells and tastes like perfume (IMHO) and saturates the lines. Someone suggested Vodka. Instead of draining the lines in the spring, you just open the tap and have a Martinil!

So now I am in a panic - the directions for our 21 said we could use compressed air OR antifreeze. We put antifreeze in the water tank and ran the pump to run it through all the faucets and toilet. Are we going to have problems because we did not use compressed air in the city water line??

I sure hope you used RV potable antifreeze!

Jim, so does this mean that you don't add RV Antifreeze to your lines after you drain them with the low point drain?
