New 23 waste system

Here is a copy of the message I just sent off to Escape for their 23 foot design consideration.

Hi Carl…so you can make the best possible 23 foot trailer.

I liked the last video showing the aluminum frame but this got me thinking about the black tank under the trailer that will span the width of the frame…something new for Escape.

1st…I don’t like the toilet on the passenger side if entertaining on a hot day and having guests under the awning with their heads only a few feet away from the open bathroom window/roof vent. I could go on explaining noises and fumes but I am sure you get the concern.

2nd…I am concerned of the solid waste build up (the pile) directly under the toilet and it having to make its way the width of the trailer to exit the drivers side. Many people camp for a few days in one spot then drive slowly a few blocks to empty the waste tank. This is not enough for the solid waste pile to dissolve. When the pile is on the passenger side, opening the valve will just allow the black water around the pile to drain away. However if the pile is on the driver side, the flow of black water from the passenger side will have more effect on the pile to flush it out. Also with a cleaning wand it would be much easier to move the pile out the exit on the drivers side as opposed to all the way across the tank.

3rd…A properly designed black tank with a sloping bottom towards the exit on the drivers side would have more depth in the tank on the drivers side for the pile, thus being more usable.

Theses 3 pro points to have the toilet on the drivers side are for your consideration before you get a shower mould done and past the point of no return.

Ed

As an after thought…for many that feed the hose to clean the toilet through the bathroom window it might be more convenient to do so on the drivers side.

I make sure that there is sufficient water in the black tank before use to prevent "the pile" from ever occurring. If you are having "a pile" issue, then you probably need to go back and review proper procedures for black tank use.

Exactly…but it is amazing how many people theses days can do no wrong and will blame such a thing on design.

I totally agree.

I got a call from a friend that was staying at a RV park while their home was being remodeled. Their problem was black flies coming out of the toilet when they flushed.

After fumigating their black tank to kill the flies and their eggs, I politely told them that leaving both the gray and black tanks open 24 /7 was not how it worked. Oh, an they had the "pile" you had mentioned.

Sometimes people just don't know!
