Portland thieves target RV batteries

A word of warning...Just heard on the news that the Portland area has a number of incidents of stolen batteries from RVs parked in driveways and other open areas. They are being taken to recyclers for $7. Don't you just hate that?
A good reason to take your batteries into the garage for the winter

Remove the propane tanks also for safety.

But, do you want those in your garage?

Batteries go in the basement (to prevent freezing, if nothing else). Propane tanks go in the shed.

Seeing my batteries are inside, I would have bigger worries if they broke in and got to them. Actually, in four years, my batteries have never been out of the trailer, though maintained every year.

Not going to worry too much about propane. I like having the hoses that require a wrench to take off, as the will stop the majority of quick grab thieves.

Have any of you found a way to use some sort of locking device on your battery(ies)?

if you get the front storage box they can be put inside that for security.

Good suggestion, but we decided against the front storage box. I'll keep looking for other options. Thanks.

It is easy to lock the propane tanks on to the trailer using one of the safety chains. It is long enough to pull up and through the handle of one tank, and then over to a lock on the other handle.

I was thinking of wrapping a cable lock around the battery box and bumper - wouldn't stop a determined thief but would probably deter the average 'snatch-and-run' thief. I want to keep the battery in this winter as I intend to do some work on the trailer and want lights and heat (although I guess I could still just use an extension cord to hook the trailer up to house electric).

If you figure it out, please post. I tried the same, but my configuration wouldn't stop a determined three-year-old. I couldn't make it work.
