propane alarm

the late 2014 build date E'21 we just bought, the propane alarm keeps going off when a tank is low, and the crossover valve on the two tanks doesn't seem to work.

rigth nwo i have one empty tank (intentionally) and one with 1/3rd or so. I can run 2 burners of the stove on high, AND the furnace on high, set the switchover valve to the empty tank, even shut the empty tank off, the telltale on the switchover still reads green, and I hear gas coming from the other tank. flipping the switchover valve either way seems to make no difference.

The propane alarm should not be going off unless there is a propane leak. The key words are “should not.” Several other things can cause a propane alarm, including aerosol sprays, dog breath, dog flattulence, and even minute amounts of hydrogen from batteries being charged.

The regulator is designed to automatically draw from the second tank once the first tank is empty. The indicator turns red when the first tank is empty. The purpose of this is to let you know that the first tank is empty and you are now operating on the second tank. The implication is “get the first tank filled up.” There is another ongoing thread about the regulator. You might want to read Brian’s explanation.
