Screens

A couple things in this topic. Just got an email that Seiki is back to selling parts for the screen doors for the old body style retracting Vist Plus door. Application Control Violation
No idea how to change the name of the link, but it still works.

Was talking to someone at the Spring Fling rally, he mentioned he had had all the screens replaced with a smaller mesh at the hardware store. He can now leave the fan running at night without sucking in the no see-ums. Not a bad idea.

It never occurred to me that the screens needed changing. Think we need to do that but doubt we will get to it soon.

I think it depends on where you camp. We've never been anywhere where the bugs were getting into the trailer through the screen.

We have and I was miffed as to how they were getting in, as I checked the screens and they were closed well. Glad you mentioned this, padlin.

The screens do not have a fine enough mesh to keep everything out, in some areas.

Some finer mesh screens might be just taped into place temporarily for the windows we might keep open and that would be much less trouble than replacing the present screens. If it happens again.

We replaced all the screens with tighter mesh in our windows. The no seeums were getting in while in Florida last year. We were lucky we had a friend who owns a window company and did them for us, I'm sure most window places could do it.

So if I have it right all our screens ? Haven't had a issue yet . Small knots next to a lake last summer but they only came in from the door . Pat

Yes, if you want them all open. Depends upon how hot it is. We often have only the two small windows open at night but in bad heat, we could want most open. You would have to be in certain places with this problem and I do not know where we had it. Florida for Chapi II.

Screens are very easy to do yourself if you find a better mesh that you want. You just need a screen roller, the new mesh, and either reuse the existing spline or get a roll of new spline. The first one or two will be a learning curve, but when you discover how to cut it properly and roll the new spline in with the tool it's a breeze-so to speak.

I thought it was something unusual where you are!

Hey Greg . Have the tool and have done more screens then I can count ,including the whole house more then once . 43 years same home . Just don't see a need for it at this time . Unless screens get bad . Enough jobs on my list . I hate paying for any work I can do . Has always made the money go further also. I just didn't understand what screens were being discussed at first . Thought something new with our sliding screen . Everything good there . Did you get your bath floor in and how do you like it ? Pat

Picture swarms of gnats coming through the screens like they weren't even there, attracted to the least bit of light.
Big Bend National Park, Rio Grande Village campground in the spring, near the river.
I'm not going back until I get the screens replaced with a smaller mesh.

On the other hand, it was great entertainment to shine a flashlight at the Maxx-fan running on exhaust, screen removed, and watching the little buggers being pulled out of the trailer. A scene from a Si-Fi film...

Hi: alanmalk... A screen play of "The Gnat Killer" you might say. Very entertaining!!! In Georgia we erected our no see um proof screen room then found out the Sand Gnats come up out of the sand!!! Alf

I see a mod coming... an illuminated MaxxFan. Would that be a MaxxFan Lite?

Emergency Window 'Open'

I had 'no-see-ums' coming in thru the emergency pop out window - push out- handle/bar. The hole is somewhat larger than the bar- I fixed that by wrapping some self-adhesive foam stripping (it might have been weather stripping). the stripping doesn't last more that a season- the adhesive dry's out.
So I need to look at that for this year.

Anyways this stopped the bugs.

Brilliant!

I picture multi-colored LEDs that change with the fan speed. The possibilities are endless. (But my wife's tolerance is not. ).
