Works as advertised. Must have if your generator is borderline in running the AC.

They certainly can’t hurt. Supposedly the new optional Coleman Mach 10 NDQ offering from Escape comes with a soft start. Double check with Escape.

Others with the Dometic and a marginal generator have added the MicroAir EasyStart with success.

Even if you don't use a generator, the easy start eliminates the loud "clunk" when the compressor starts, making using the AC a bit more pleasant.

Escape will install an NDQ with or without a easy start. Easy start adds $96.

We confirmed when ordering (Jan2020) our 21NE that the A/C had "soft start" to allow smaller generators to run the unit.
Once we got JoMoE ... I tried it with the Honda 2200i generator and the A/C worked like a charm. Had more trouble figuring out the digital thermostat than running the A/C.

Until I read the instructions.

So the soft start works as advertised.

No up charge that I can see. Just reviewed my build sheet and there's nothing additional that would suggest otherwise. I quote directly from the bill of sale in front of me.

Air Conditioner with Digital Thermostat (Dometic 11,000 BTU) $1,225

Not sure about Easy Start on Dometic. I only corresponded about the Coleman.

There is definitely an up charge for adding soft start to the Coleman AC. Off the top, I think it is US$50 but I have not looked at my draft build sheet. I could be wrong about the amount.

While the nomenclature can be confusing, there is a difference between what some manufacturers call "soft start" & devices like the MicroAir EasyStart.

The soft start is sometimes built into the AC, while the MicroAir Easy Start is an add on device that provides addition starting current reduction. An air conditioner can have both.

Thank you! That is correct. I was not in front of my desktop when I wrote the email.

I optioned for the Coleman 10 NDQ (13,500 BTU) with soft start and Bluetooth. It was considerably more than a $96 option.
