Solar Panel Pictures?
Does anyone have a picture of their roof-mounted solar panel? I've searched the forum for one w/o success...or maybe I'm a lousy searcher. Also, since everyone who has solar seems to know the status of their battery or batteries, I assume that there is an interior digital panel with readout. Does anyone have a picture of that?

Thank you, Jim. I had no idea the panel would be so conspicuous on the roof...and especially on a 15A. BTW, I can't seem to save the enlarged pics, only the tiny thumbnails. Any hints there?

you can not save off the website, only copy which as you find out are thumbnails.as far as the panel, on the 19 and 17 they can not be seen, if the 15 is the same width then it can not be seen from the ground.

Seeing all the roof-mounted gadgets reminds me of a video of the World's Toughest Bridge (Durham, NC) on Flixxy.com. One could just cry when that 40-foot motor home gets nailed.

Hi Karen, we have the solar panel on our 15-A and you do not even notice it is there.

It's cloudy and raining here in Vancouver. My panel keeps working slowly and I have been running 6 a 8 lights plus the furnace for hours. Also ran the Microwave briefly and the panels recharged quickly. The digital panel has 3 modes. Charging rate, percent power left, and voltage. Very useful data. The panels sit lower than the Maxifan and A/C unit. I bought almost every option offered - solar would be in my top 3.

Hi Karen, we have a panel on our 17, and it is not even noticeable. As others have said, the max fan and AC sits higher. If you read all the discussion on panels on the forum you will notice that most of the negative opinions on them come from people that don't have them. Those that have the panels love them. The only valid reason not to get the panels is if you always camp on the grid, or only boondock for less than 5 days at a time. The arguments about wind drag, shady conditions, maintaining them, the environmental footprint of building them, etc, are, IMHO, a bunch of hooey. If camp without power for periods beyond a few days, the panels are fantastic. It is that simple.

Thanks for y'all's comments. I'm not going to let the visual impact of the panel deter me from my decision to go solar. Golly, what with the rapidly changing technology, I can see the day when panels are an integral part of the roof, like skylights...or even an integral part of the fiberglass chemistry itself. Heck, the whole trailer could become a solar energy absorption unit with integrated fiber optics, receivers and transmitters built into the shell. One wouldn't need lights or antennas or any electronic signaling device ...the trailer would just glow at night and hum with energy.

Don, all you really need to say is "Here in Vancouver", the rest of your sentence is already implied.

A brand new trailer and I can't even bring myself to camp in the driveway.
Rain in the forecast as far as I can see.

At least you can check for any possible leaks. And it will keep the trailer clean.

Thanks, John! It was hard to focus on your trailer because I was so enamored with the scenery. Where were these shots taken? Also, I would love to see interior shots of your Escape. Nice tow, BTW!

The top photo is Mt Robson on Highway 16 in BC close to Alberta border. The second one is along Hwy 93 in Kootenay National Park between Radium and Lake Louise (BC to Alberta). The third is along Hwy 40 in Kananaskis country Alberta.

Here are some interior photos as requested.
We had some significant modifications done to the 15A basic plan. Working with Reese and Tammy we were able to convert the double dinette into a queen width fixed bed. Apparently this was a first for them on the 15A.
The modification required taking 6 inches off the galley and closet. Doing this meant we lost the drawers from the galley side. It also meant that we could not have a microwave above the closet. We were not interested in the microwave so that was not a loss.
After thinking about the loss of drawers we came up with the idea of getting rid of the now narrowed micro shelf above the closet, raising up the closet and installing 2 drawers below the closet. Once again we presented our plan to Reese and he came back saying that he could do that as well.
Now we were both very happy campers, as it were, with our plans. Coming from decades of being tent campers we were not planning to spend a lot of time indoors but the time indoors would be mostly sleeping and we wanted to be comfortable with the queen width bed. We have thoroughly enjoyed our trailer this past summer and are extremely happy with the modifications we did.
Thanks to Reese and Tammy and their willingness to consider and build to our needs, camping has taken on a whole new life. 8)

Thank you, John...what a great job! And you've give me a couple of ideas. More ideas, more money. Sigh.
