Stinky slinkies

Just a reminder to make sure your slinky holding tube cap is secure. Driving from Denton to Fort Worth just now, saw 5 slinkies on the side of the road on I35. All of them where the nice Rhino ones.

That would be a new world record for me. My record is three on slinkies in one day. I have probably seen about every removable cover and panel on I80, I74 and I70 between Cedar Cedar Rapids and Columbus Ohio that is on the average camper. I contemplated designing a
Camper parts bingo game to go along with my Road Kill prototype I tried out on the Boy Scouts but they were too busy with their games to look out the window so I figured why bother. Now years later they are the people loosing stuff cause they didn’t use the checklist.

The latch on the standard tube is pretty lame. I use a zip tie while on the road.

Small carabiners attached to the storage tube is what I use

Adequate small zip tires Can be purchased in 100 count bags at Harbor freight for about a dollar fifty, sometimes for a dollar on sale.
My tube has a 90 degree latch which is still working after 9 years but it also has a pair of holes that line up which has a spring clip to hold it closed. So far I haven’t lost the original clip. But I have a spare in the parts box.

Yes, yes and yes. I've seen my fair share of slinkies that have slithered away.

I haven't found it necessary to use something like a zip tie. A simple bobby pin like, easy to open, clip has always kept mine from going anyway.

We bought 4 cheapo locks for $4 at Harbor Freight, 2 for both ends of the slinky tube holder and 2 for the front box. They secure things, but are hardly a deterent to theft.

I always figured the locks were an easy way to tie things together quickly and never depended upon them for strength. Although the puck locks and the big rekeyable Americans or Masters were often better than the chain they linked together. There’s a difference between theft, vandalism, unauthorized access, and true necessary security.
