Does the progressive ems hum continually while connected to ac power? Mine does and want to make sure this is normal. Tia.

I've never noticed ours humming, but I do notice the converter humming. However, the EMS is down and behind our converter.

I do not hear the EMS but I do hear the battery charger portion of the converter if i am near it. If you want to check which one is making the noise you can use a screwdriver. Hold the metal blade to the top of the EMS and place your ear against the handle. If it's the EMS you should hear it . The converter is a bit harder to access but odds are if the EMS is quiet you are hearing the battery charger.

Oh boy, are you old Skool. I remember doing that on car motors to figure out which cylinder wasn't firing!

That method was called using a "mechanics stethoscope"

Yep and I have one of these at home, a real mechanics stethoscope. Even used it recently find the source of the ticking noise in the truck. Turned out to be a belt tensioner.

When I called Progressive about the buzzing, they asked me to clean the contactor, when that didn't work they sent a replacement part.

I just reread this post. My apologies for not saying thanks! It is the converter that hums not the ems. Still does it when connected to shore power.

my Casita's Progressive power converter went out and the first PD4645V replacement had a nasty hum only when under very light load, like 1 of the LED interior lights I'd installed. turn on 2, and the humm was quiet, 3 and it went away completely.

they said they'd had reports of that batch doing that and were waiting on a new batch with an engineering change, and sent me one when they came in. no more hum.
