Glad you enjoyed the trip, despite a few adventures. Sounds like you saw a Great Blue Heron. Normally a wading fish and frog hunter, but they love a fat gopher. I have seen them catch gophers in my front yard

Thanks for the notes and all you did to make that coast a good place to visit.

Heron are also in Colorado but I'm used to seeing them around water so I figured they ate fish, crawfish, frogs... they sometimes visit our neighbors ponds. We have also seen masses of migrating herons in local corn stubble... but now I know they eat gophers too! We have a few voles that decorate the lawn under snowpack. Maybe they'll find them!
