If you’ve had experience with Alaska ferrying with a trailer and dog, I’d very interested to hear how it went. I believe the pets must stay with the trailer, tho’ the humans can’t, while they’ll be times to walk the doggie(s) during transit, and maybe while the ferry’s unloading and loading at the various towns.

We have traveled the Bellingham-Juneau ferry route several times, including last September from north to south with our 5.0TA, but never with a dog. As the official policy indicates, it is our experience that there are at least three car-deck-is-open calls every 24 hours, sometimes more. Folks with dogs walk them around a smallish open area on the car deck where the dogs do their business. The animal interactions can get interesting. The ferry personnel provide paper towels and the dog owners clean up after their animals.
We have heard at least one first-hand instance where a dog must have really torn up the inside of a car (repeated calls from the purser for the owner of a black jeep to report to the car deck immediately). The key to success would seem to be a relaxed attitude/demeanor on the part of the animal in a confined space, and in occasional close quarters with other dogs. The prices really went up last year, but we always enjoy the trip.
