The PA Wilds is easily my favorite close to home travel destination. A nice place to visit now that fuel prices have forced me to scale back some of my travel plans to more distant locations.
Here are just a few suggestions of places to explore:
If you're starting out in Scranton, I think you already know about Steamtown National Historic Site and the Electric City Trolley Museum.

Travelling west towards Wellsboro, the PA Grand Canyon and Leonard Harrison State Park are worth checking out. Lots of hiking trails and scenic overlooks as well as a rail trail running the length of the gorge.

One of my favorite COE campgrounds is Ives Run Located on Hammond Lake, north of Wellsboro. Very nice campsites and a small sandy beach on the lake. Unfortunately due to shutdowns and staffing cuts the last couple of years some of the buildings are starting to show signs of neglect.

If stargazing is your thing,Cherry Springs State Park near Coudersport is known to have some of the darkest skies in the east. It's campground is rustic and usually booked up far in advance.

The PA Lumber Museum located along Rt. 6 in Galeton features a re created logging camp as well as a 70 ton Shay locomotive.
Pennsylvania Lumber Museum
The Kinzua Bridge State Park in Mount Jewett is home to what was once the longest and tallest railroad structure in the world. What remains of the bridge has been converted into a spectacular sky walk with a glass bottom floor at the end. ( great if you don't have acrophobia )

The Allegheny National Forest offers over 500,000 acres of recreational land. Take your pick of 15 forest campgrounds surrounding the Allegheny Reservoir.

Titusville is the birthplace of the petroleum industry. The Drake Oil Well and Museum is a fascinating piece of history. You can also ride the rails on the Oil City and Titusville Railroad.

This is just a sampling of attractions along the Rt 6 corridor and PA Wilds.
If you're still planning on attending the Spring Fling I could put together a pack of literature with more detailed information for you.
