I was just guessing at a couple weeks, no doubt it will be at least that, we won't really know until we get there. We have no set agenda at all besides dental work the week ahead of the rally, and the rally itself. Our overall time frame is 2 months or so, but could be 3.

I have talked to some who prefer the Algodones crossing, but like Ron most seem to prefer Mexicali.

It pretty much has something for everyone.
Looks like my kind of place!

There's lot's of room. Evidently on Mexican holidays the numbers swell to the hundreds. We've been able to get waterfront spots but worst case, not a waterfront spot for a couple of days until one becomes available.

There are also many other beaches nearby that have lot's of room. We like Coyote Beach but some have other beaches as their favorites. Anyway you slice it, there's lot's of room.

No, not much tide. You have to look pretty closely to see any changes.

Yes, for two reasons.

One, swimming with the whale sharks.

Two, on the South side of the bay the rocky headland is pretty good for snorkeling and in one area at water level is a hot springs.

Im bringing a saddle for that whale shark!

That would be really fun swimming with that shark!!!Some may not know that they are plankton feeders and safe to be among …. unless you use your spurs.

There was a power boat that came into the bay and one of the occupants tried jumping onto the back of a whale shark. Let's just say that it's a good thing he got back on his boat and got outta Dodge before the folks on shore got to him.

There's a facebook link on the Baja Nomad site that captures the current essence of the damaged section of Hwy. 5. It will also bring a smile and bragging rights to Toyota and Dodge Ram owners.

Not being a computer nerd I don't know if this link will work or if I'm allowed to do this. If not, please delete.

One shudders to think what would have happened if either of those straps would have snapped ...

Think about when chains used to be used! These straps can take dynamic loading much better. One guy yells out in the beginning that they are 30,000# straps. Those small trucks are losing traction long before that kind of force can be applied to the strap. My bigger concern would be the connections at the vehicles themselves. It doesn't look like it, but the semi was doing a lot of it's own work. At one point the 4Runner had all four tires spinning.

The truck should have been doing the bulk of the work but still, he couldn't have done it without them. But since he's in the business of hauling stuff and knows the conditions that exist you'd think that maybe he'd have considered going with slightly less load. Talk about fully loaded.

The video also shows the heartbreak of the situation with the new bridge visible in the background.

We crossed at Tecate on Jan 13, getting our FFM was simple and there was no wait to cross the border. Mex 1 was in the best condition that I've seen it for years. The Cataviña potholes were filled and there were km's of new asphalt.
