Baja California

Wondering if anyone has ventured into Mexico? I'd really like to take a trip into Baja. Can anyone tell me how their experience was? Where did you stay? What advice can you give? I need details!

If you're Canadian or German go for it! Yankee go home It's a Narco state; they hate us for the DEA and other interdiction. In any case the advice to travelers in general is to not be obvious or stick out. How can you do that with an Escape?

Hotel in Cancun, Loreto, Cabo etc, no problemo, but otherwise good luck

I'm wondering if this is just paranoia but then again I've never driven through Mexico. I want to hear from people who have actually done this. Is it as sketchy as we might think it is? Or is it really no big deal and just a "use common sense" thing.
