Oh, man- are we gonna have to put up with this fake news from you until you get your new trailer? That's like buying gas in Death Valley instead of Lone Pine or Olancha. In Oakhurst outside Yosemite gas is $3.43 at Vons. Still sucks, but come November if some here get their wish it just might be like that at a gas station near you

There's no reported price on Gasbuddy for that location, but the prevailing price in the area right now is about $3.59 per gallon. I've no doubt that photo is real, but it's likely from several years ago.Click image for larger version

I've planned a two month, 8,000 mile trip for months now. Leaving Aug 10, home Sept 29... $3,000 budget for fuel. Yes gas/diesel is going up and YEOW fuel prices in Canada are MUCH higher than the US side. But will I cancel this trip because fuel may cost me more? Not a chance. Just throw more money at the budget and plan to eat beans and wieners a bit more often....

Yeah, like Susan sez- "can we not afford this?" But for young families the price of fuel and campsites are pretty high even factoring inflation vs. what we paid 35 years ago.

Yep, agree. If gas goes up and I still want to camp, the gas prices wouldn't stop me.

Besides, beans and weenies are camping food.

Only plus is the Canadian fuel was not gasahol so you get a bit more MPG and in my case the supercharger controls allowed the timing to advance further. Almost cried when I filled up in the U.S. I was getting used to the extra pep.

It costs money to go racin’. Taking extended trips are a treat and like Donna says, throw a little more money at it if you have to. A lot of folks would not understand why I spend money on the things I do and I don’t understand their rationale either. I know camping fees and gasoline are expensive for young people but I also see them on I phone 10s, and buying firewood in areas where it could be scavenged by the kids. It does not bother me if that’s their kind of fun, they wouldn’t probably understand the cost of fiberglass trailer over their tent.
Oill is worth nothing when it’s in the ground. And empty campgrounds are not a revenue stream if the cost gets too high.

Yah, but in Canada, with your strong buck, everything else, including beans and wieners is dirt cheap.

That depends on where you are. Alberta regular fuel of all brands is 10% ethanol, although at least some (Shell and Esso, and perhaps all) premium gasoline here is alcohol-free.

As gas prices rise along with camping fees, I wont like it. I'll just take shorter trips and boondock more often. There are so many wonderful places to see and intriguing people to meet … I'll still have a wonderful time!

You said it Tom. The last time we were at Big Bend for example we met a couple who were both scientists, one a Botanist and the other a Geologist. They were in the Chisos mountains doing research for a new book. Detailed knowledge of the area, it's geology and it's ecosystem. Made us feel kinda dumb talking to them around the fire, but they were very down to earth.

Hi: rbryan4... No matter what price... camping is always a "Gas".
You can't get more down to earth than Botany and Geology. Talked to a Geologist once and he said he was returning from a prospecting trip. I asked if he was looking for gold and he said no...gravel!!! Alf

The highest price I ever saw for gasoline in the U.S. was in Panamint Springs, CA, on the edge of Death Valley. It was $5.98 in February 2014. Lee Vining near Mono Lake is reliable for high prices as well.

Hard to believe this is an accurate photo, but you never know. Chevron is one of the most expensive gas stations around, and the more remote you are, the more they know you have to buy from them or run out of gas. It takes a lot of work for a gas truck to get near Yosemite. Gas prices are nearing $4.00/gal in some areas of California, $3.39 where we live. It all depends on where you are.

It's a real photo, from what I've been able to gather. The gas station in the photo is in El Portal, just outside Yosemite Valley. But, it's also from around the 2008 time frame, when gas was high everywhere.

That particular station has been a Shell and a Chevron, and it's known for it's high gas prices. They're a sort of "last chance" stop because there's no gas in Yosemite Valley.
