Campgrounds in Sturgeon Bay WI
I might be in the Sturgeon Bay WI area in September. Wondering if anyone has any recommendations on places to stay.
Thanks!

Sturgeon Bay is at the base of Door County Wisc. We enjoy staying in Potawatomi and Peninsula State Parks! We plan to be camping there this October. If you've never explored Door County, I highly recommend it!
Very charming.

Peninsula State Park is in the top 10 Wisconsin State Parks, perhaps the top five. Centrally located with a lot of nearby sights, the park itself if worth a visit with towers, bike trails, overlooks and cold cold water.
If a private campground with all the amenities is of interest, check out Wagon Trail. Located in the interior of the peninsula, it is not on Green Bay or Lake Michigan but offers a very central location to visit other areas.

Would also highly recommend Peninsula State Park in Door County. We stayed there 5 nights last fall towards the end of September and enjoyed the activities in the park. Fall colors were starting at that time so that was a bonus too. Visiting the lighthouses on both sides of the peninsula are interesting. Lots of shopping and dining opportunities in the small towns in the the area, if that's of interest to you.

Hi Mike,
Your neighbors Ronn and Colleen (Eagan MN). We have a 5.0TA on order for a June pickup. Welcome to the forum, RVing is new to us so this forum has been invaluable.
I am wondering about your move from an Air Stream to the Escape, do you care to elaborate?

Hi Ronn & Colleen,
Our family has had RV's of some shape or form since the early 60's. I have always been enamored Airstreams, so I sold the 16' "canned ham" I had that had served me well for 20+ years and bought a small Bambi. While I will admit, the Airstream was as cute as a bug, I learned that their build quality was over-rated. That said, we still had a lot of fun with it.
My wife Claudia just retired at the beginning of the year so now we plan to be doing more extended trips. A 16'er wasn't going to cut it any more. One of my sisters had a 13' Scamp. While the 13' was crazy small, I really liked it's molded fiberglass construction. My internet search for larger molded fiberglass trailers brought me to Oliver, Bigfoot, and Escape. Bigfoot (which uses a dealer business model) didn't have a dealer east of Montana. They also had no referral program for me to see one up close. I checked Bigfoot off the list. Both Oliver and Escape gave me contact information to check out locally owned, new model trailers. Both trailers were very impressive. Build quality is through the roof great on the Oliver, but their 23'er was only available in either a twin bed floor plan or a "east-west" floor plan. We don't care for crawling over each other for middle of the night issues. They are expensive and I thought it was a high price to pay for a plan that really didn't work for us. Escape also had very good build quality and we really liked the 21' floor plan. Molded fiberglass construction, terrific build quality, a floor plan we really liked, very responsive staff, good value. Easy decision!
21' Escape!!
My enthusiasm must have been contagious because after we placed our order, my brother and his wife (who live in Apple Valley -right near you) place a order for a 21'. Both of us will be heading to Chilliwack to pick up our trailers May 21. Then we will go to the Escape rally, followed by a return to Minnesota via the Canadian Rockies. June- Duluth for "Grandma's Marathon" (we're both runners) followed by a family get-together in Grand Marais. October- Door County Wisconsin.
Take care-
Mike & Claudia

Peninsula State Park makes a great home base and is beautiful itself, but I hope you have time to day trip to some or the other parks/sites on the peninsula. It's a beautiful area and one of my favorite in fall.

Thanks Mike, hopefully we can all meet up. It appears we are getting a few Escapes around the twin cities (& Lanesboro), we could have our own rally sometime.
We would like to have gone to the Escape Rally, but we have a granddaughter getting married and the schedule would have been too tight.
We will need to store our trailer, can you store yours at home?

No- We live in Minneapolis near Minihaha Falls and don’t have storage space. We keep it at Pine Crest Storage in Lake Elmo.
It works out pretty well for us.

May 21, 2019 is going to be a busy day, there will be 2 from Pennsylvania in the am, actually since this is my 4th Escape, I'm just going to catch the 5 minute "Cliff" notes version. But with your 2 also, we can caravan our way over to Osoyoos. I estimate it to be a 3 hour ride from Chilliwack to Osoyoos. Imagine 4 X Escape 21's pulling in together...... . Maybe we can all be close to one another?

I think you’re picking up your trailer pretty early in the morning. My brother and my orientation isn’t until 11:30. By the time we go to Sumas and get to the rally I’m thinking it will be pretty late in the evening. We definitely want to get together with you when we get there.

Peninsula SP is very nice. Definitely worth a visit. I didn't camp there but visited. BTW, if you camp elsewhere but want to visit the SP, admission is free for pedestrians and bicyclists. I rented a Trek bike at the shop just outside the gate, and rode in. (And I liked the Trek so well, I wound up buying one.)
WI SPs are rather expensive, between the camping fee and the entry fee.
