Email on the road
After 18 or so years with the same email address I'm being booted off for reasons too boring to go into. I wonder if there are any accounts that are easier or harder to access from the road?
So if you really like (or can't stand) your email account would you tell me why?

I have been using gmail for a bunch of years now. I really like it, as it keeps track of all my contacts and emails on their server, and I can access them on any connected device I like.

I keep few accounts with several major services. I have been happy with gmail. It is free, includes plenty of storage, and has some of the best spam filters/virus checking. It is very popular and a lot of people use it. YMMV

I have four different email servers, and have had the least trouble with Google (gmail). The worst has been my local cable company, Time Warner.
Generally, there isn't a problem getting email on any of the accounts while traveling (with the exception of Time Warner), but sending mail can be a problem. Again, Google lets me send mail from anywhere, while some mail servers only send mail from your local account.

I have gmail, probably because I don't know how to have any other. Although, I have an old sbcglobal email address that I don't know how to cancel. Wonder what's in that inbox? Gmail seems to work everywhere.

Outlook.com is good option. Gmail is good option. Have a yahoo as well, I would put it at the bottom of these free services. Probably would put gmail first all round for usability, etc.

Ruthe, I've been in IT for almost 20 years, and I've either used or configured just about every SMTP or POP email platform there is. For my money, a web-based POP type email is the only one that makes sense on the road, and Gmail is the easiest and most robust email program for most users.
I'd go with Gmail.

Also in IT since the days of paper punch cards. And frequently, because of work, required to maintain 5 or 6 email accounts. Now retired and down to 4 and heading to 3...
My vote goes to Gmail.

Another plus for gmail from a google fan. I use Thunderbird for my wife's local isp email address along with mine and float those emails automatically up to gmail so we can always get them there when away from home. You can also route yahoo and hotmail accounts there as well.

I'm a big Apple fan and have had the same @Mac address for 10 years. Apple makes it so easy to seamlessly connect my iPhone,iMac,MacBookPro, MacMini,MacAir plus "the cloud" that any new purchase will work with your existing. Course there is a cost to that convenience, they are more expensive.

This convenience is so great these days. I roll my eyes when someone says that their phone bit the dust, and they lost all their contacts, as there is just no need for that. I know Goggle has done this for many years now, which is why so many use it.
One of the reasons I quite using Outlook many years ago, is that unless I actually connected and synced my phone to my computer, emails and contacts were not shared. But even Outlook does this now, I understand.
I love that we can do this now. I have over 1,000 contacts in my phone (well, I guess all devices), including many past customers who I might never contact again, but as they are in a hidden directory, they do not show on my devices unless looked for, BUT should they ever contact me, it is so great to have all their info at hand, and I know before answering the phone, who it even is.
