Well David you did say you wanted to get away from the heat in Texas! How do you like our 100% humidity! We are almost in the same boat as you literally our Escapes could possibly float!

We left home Friday on our first trip with our 5.0 with nice weather then stopped overnight in Rainy River ON which lived up to its name. We were right on the riverside with MN on the far shore and after supper had a big thunderstorm and since then we have seen nothing but rain. Came to our son's outside Thunder Bay (actually not too far from you at boundary waters) on Saturday where we are helping them move into their new home so we are just sleeping in the trailer not cooped up like you.

And to top off our rainy first trip somewhere on Saturday our spare tire came off. We shall be looking for it on the way home!

O NO! Did your spare come off the lug or break at the upright mount?
We just had a discussion a few weeks ago about losing your spare. I ran across another 5.0 that also lost their spare. You have to wonder if an accident was caused back somewhere. Everyone should routinely check their mount and lug nut holding on the spare. I was out on patrol a few weeks ago in my town when a tire/wheel came bouncing off the highway and hit four new Cadillacs parked at a dealership.
We are currently camped in Bemidji, MN. to stock up on supplies, do laundary, and see the local sites while it rains.

The mount broke where welded poorly according to our son who is a trained welder. We let Reace know and we just heard back they are supplying a new mount and tire cover, we just have to buy wheel and tire.

It is fortunate we lost it along Hwy 11 which goes from Fort Frances opposite International Falls MN to near Thunder Bay and has little traffic.

Thought you were in Bemidji because of your Paul Bunyan pic. It's finally stopped raining here, hopefully you'll soon be able to get out of the trailer and enjoy boundary waters and the North Shore.

David, welcome to the land of 10,000 lakes and 1 million mosquitos. They are worse this spring because of all the snow and rain we have had. And don't let anyone convince you that our state bird is the mosquito. It is the common loon and you will hear their distinct call as you are traveling around the lakes in northern MN. Have fun!

John

Make no mistake, we are enjoying Minnesota. Very nice, well managed state parks with beautiful historic log buildings. Our chosen route will now take us up to Voyageors NP, over to the Soudan Mine area, and then up and down the north shore of Lake Superior.

Hi: emers382... Just heard about this in Tammy's office today!!! Yikes.., I had no idea it was loose when I changed the tire cover. If I had it would have been fixed. Can't be that bad a weld to last all these miles!!! Just glad no damage was done.
Keep a keen eye on the way home. You may not have to retire so soon. Alf

Hi Alf

Glad you made it OK to ETI, enjoy your orientation and the rally must admit I am a bit jealous.

The tire would not have been loose or noticeable so don't take any blame, it just decided after many years of traveling with you that it decided not to stick around with us
Just as well that it didn't happen during our short jaunt through the US where it would have "Escaped IN Minnesota" (gotta keep the thread on track). We do intend to keep an eye out on the way home although as our son says it may have bounced into the bush!
