No, admission to Canadian national parks, national historic sites and national marine conservation areas really is free in 2017, for the entire year. The buy-one-year/get-two scheme is just how they are handling people who already have a valid pass as of the beginning of 2017, without creating a bunch of part-year passes.

If Bob just visits in 2017, you will not pay for park admission.

Thanks for clearing that up Brian.
I had a hard time figuring out just what the offer was when they stated that those with a 2016 pass got free access in 2017.
A great deal for those wishing to visit the National Parks.

Yeah, I just bought an annual pass last weekend, which is good until the end of November 2018.
