If you like I are travelling vicariously on your computer, for those of you in Ontario I stumbled on a rather useful and FREE mapping resource from the beloved government
a little tricky to get around to start with BUT it shows all the Crown Land which equals free boondocking. I used to live north of Elliot Lake as a hunting lodge owner so I checked the map against things I knew to be true and it is a VERY GOOD resource
have fun

Ah yes, Crown Land
I stayed in a couple of cabins built on Crown Land, on islands on Lake Superior, off the Rossport ONT. area. An interesting arrangement. A Canadian is allowed to squat on Crown Land, for free, build on it, and enjoy their work. Ah...but there's a Catch 22. They must leave the door unlocked for others to use, when not occupied.
Crown Land is pretty much the equivalent of US BLM lands. Up here Canadian residents get 21 days free in one spot, then are supposed to move, non residents need a permit. $10 a day
Advantage in Canada is that more than 80% of the population lives within 100 miles of the US/Canada border which leaves an awful lot of Crown Land for boondocking

Very egalitarian.
A beautiful area where I spent many days one summer running a B&B in Rossport. Met people from around the world.
