Fuel Prices

I was in Kingsville (TX) this morning and diesel was 2.17 and regular fuel was 1.91. Falling fast in the last 2 weeks or so.

Other places?

Certainly not the case here in British Columbia. $1.32-$1.46/litre...whereas the rest of Canada is under $1.00-$1.10/litre.

It's $1.31 a litre in North Vancouver, down from $1.46, so prices are down, but it's hard to take advantage if you're staying home.

I noticed Vancouver prices were lower than the island last night...rather odd considering it's usually the reverse. What this pricing says though, is there's some considerable huckstering going on somewhere in "Beautiful (but pricey) BC".

USD to CDN exchange rate converting US gallon to Litres -
roughly $0.60-$0.63/litre regular.

That's roughly 1975 Canadian prices from my recollection.

Mixed Blessing. Our Drillers are feeling it bad. They are so leveraged that if it continues it will be a bloodbath.

Same in the Dakotas and further north would be my bet.

In Central Coast of California

Our prices are slowly coming down. Regular is down to $3.25 a gallon! That would be approximately 86 cents per liter.

Lots of $1.99 87 octane 10% Ethanol here in eastern Iowa. My favorite Sinclair station is $2.23 for top tier 87 octane straight unleaded. I only buy off road, winter mix diesel for the tractor but haven’t needed much with the minimal snowfall we’ve had this winter.

Your recollection and my recollection seem to be quite different. Back then they were still selling gas by the imperial gallon.

(4.54 litres = 1 imperial gallon)

And my recollection is gas was selling for about $0.80 per imperial gallon.

That was also the time of the gas crisis in the US, they were coming up here to buy cheaper gas rather than us going down there.

The cheapest gas I've seen on my trip so far was $1.89 on the Texas-Louisiana border on Feb. 1. It gradually got more expensive as I went west, with it going over $3 in Nevada. For the couple of weeks I was in California in late Feb./ early March it seemed to average about $3.60 - $3.70. The highest I saw was in the desert town of Shoshone, CA at $5.00, the lowest in Ukiah at $3.00. I didn't fill up at either place. Oregon is cheaper so far, from $2.70 - $3.00.

I wonder if they don't lower prices immediately because they have a sunk cost with the fuel in their tanks. They can't sell it at a loss. Though, if the cost for the next truck is cheaper, then they can lower prices. The raising of prices might be because they are using the increase to drive revenue and prepare for the next truck, which could cost more.
