Heads up on the East Coast of Florida

Another tropical system is developing and aiming for the East Coast of Florida, in case any of you are in the area. It's a smaller storm, and it currently looks like most of the danger is for those very close to the coast. That would include me, as my 5.0 is now parked about 400 yards from the beach on a barrier island in Juno Beach, so I'm not taking any chances. Time to head North and West!

Maybe head up to Merritt Island and watch the launch of Artemis on 11/14.

I lived in Cocoa Beach during the Apollo Program and we loved weather like this:
SURF!

Best of Luck Joe, don’t go too far north.
When you start seeing electrical cords hanging out through grills on cars, turn around.

Part of the reason I'm here is for the surf, so normally I'd be stoked and gearing up for the approaching swell...but unfortunately I broke a rib while surfing the last swell, last week here. Doctor's orders: no more surf this year!

Ha! My parents live in Blue Ridge, GA, so the plan is start paying attention around Atlanta and not miss the exit. Then it's straight West back home to Tahoe, which is getting nailed by it's own storm right now, but it sure isn't tropical

Unless you need to go to SoCal, would advise not doing I-10 into LA.
Navigate using Google shows the best route- which is I-40, unless winter weather is a reason to avoid it.

navigate from granite falls nc to santa rosa

Yep exactly, this time of year for my return trip, the 40 is my preferred route. That said, I keep an eye on the weather as I approach the mountains (esp. near Flagstaff), and worst case I can drop further south or wait out a storm if needed...

Last Thursday I returned from a two-month trip to Maine then down the East Coast. The last two times I did this I had to dodge hurricanes on the way home. This time I threaded the needle, apparently.

sound advice about I-10, I do not have much choice but to travel it regularly and although some recent improvements have helped it can be dreadful.

Stay safe. I was in Houston during Apollo, but got to watch Apollo 11. We are close to Blue Ridge right now along Skeenah Creek

Get well soon

Bummer about the rib. You could have, on your way out of Dodge to avoid the hurricane, stopped off in Sheboygan, Wisconsin. It's become a surf mecca for some, big, sweet water of Lake Michigan; the gales of November and shore structure make it a prime surf city. You brought your dry suit, I trust. You'd need one. Gales of November? You'll recall the Gordon Lightfoot Edmund Fitzgerald saga song, eh? "Been good to know you", so the song goes.

I missed meeting up with you at Thomson IL Rendezvous. I was there. Where were you? Occupied, waxing your board?

bon voyage,

bon voyage,
Ya know, I got there kinda late on Friday so I missed all the initial meet & greet time, so there were a few people I missed...now I know, get there early next year! It was a great rally.
