Joshua Tree

We will be visiting this park in mid March. Apparently sites are on a first come first served basis. Obviously it is best to visit mid week. Your personal experience would be much appreciated!

I have only visited there on day trips, but the campsites are really cool. Nestled in around the rocks. You won't be disappointed. Great walks and hikes in the area. Enjoy!!

My experience is even on the popular weekend it's rarely totally filled. Unless it's a super bloom AND spring break... If/when it's full you always have the option of camping at the BLM land outside the park, there is one on the north end and one on the south end. The NPS website has the map. (https://www.nps.gov/jotr/planyourvis...f-the-park.htm)...

That said if you are going after some of the prettier spots (Jumbo rocks for example) they are really popular.. also keep in mind your trailer might not fit in some sites...

We were in Joshua Tree last February and it was packed. And absolutely beautiful. Highly recommended. Especially in the winter. Summer is HOT [emoji91]

Jumbo Rocks is now (as of February 8th) reservable. There are some first come campgrounds, and some reservable. Here is the information.

Lynn, We reserved and stayed at Black Rock last January. Days were near perfect, 70*, and nights were mid 30’s. It ‘is’ a NP Campground, but located 10-15 minutes outside the kiosk/entrance. We found it a pleasant refuge after long days of self driving tours and hikes throughout the park. Pack a lunch and enjoy your days
In fact, my avatar is a picture of our Black Rock campsite.

Jon, your link said that Jumbo Rocks is still first come first serve, Black Rock and Indian Cove are reservable.

We stayed at Jumbo Rocks a few years ago in March. Fill your fresh water tank before entering the park (we got water at park entrance on north side). We had a neat campsite surrounded by rock formations.

Many sites are 'parking lot' style with 4 or 6 sites side by side in parking stalls. These sites are best for tent campers. We lucked out and got a single roadside site.

Take a look at google maps satellite view to see how sites are laid out before you go.

Edit: The information is not consistent on the National Parks website. I went back to the reservation site, and see that Jumbo Rocks campsites are now reservable.

When I went to the link it showed Jumbo Rock as reservable. One of the Quartzsite rally attendees was there & told not to pay for their site past the 8th since it was reserved by someone else on that date.
